As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

There's No Running From What You Love... Tuesday, November 16

I took the day off boxing and weight training... AND running. I figured after running a half marathon this weekend and given the fact that Thursday will mark the start of the intense one month countdown till my next fight, I thought I deserved a day off. Come Thursday it will be go-go-go. Daily running, daily weight training and daily boxing for one month non-stop. Not too sure if I agree with it, after all I've always believed that rest is just as important to the body as is training, but things are done differently because, well as my homepage name implies, this is the flipside; this is Korea.

My day off of training by no means meant it was boxing-free. Boxing always has a way of incorporating itself into my daily routine. Today one of the ways it jumped into my day was via an email from my Japanese promoter. I opened up the email and it was loaded with numerous pictures he took at my fight in Japan last year but had totally forgotten to send me. Here's only a few of the shots he sent.

Boxing jumped into my day today also via a text message from the Cheonan Trump who want to iquire about my training and how my half marathon went. Plan is to swing by his office on Friday.

Boxing jumped yet again into my day when I arrived at my Samsung group tutoring class and there on one of my student's phones I caught glimpse of a picture of Snickers and I. As it turns out, prior to me entering the room, a few of the students were talking about an article about Snickers and I online so one of them decided to pop it up on the Internet via his phone.

My day is always bombarded with thoughts, actions, and whatnot related and connected to my boxing but the best jump boxing took today came at the very start of my day and it came from none other than my beautiful man, Snickers. I was jumping around the house with one sock on, half my outfit on and Mi Nam watching with pure amusement I'm sure, when all of a sudden my phone rang. It was Snickers.

Now you see, every time he calls me it means he's walked 40 minutes to some ghetto Korean PC room just so that he can use the PC room's phone at a discounted price. It reminds me of when we first started dating and he was so penny conscious and had to walk almost an hour home because he didn't even have enough money to take a bus. He use to save his money and buy me coffee at GS 25 instead of taking the bus. Of course I had no idea this was the situation until much later in our relationship. Anyways, him calling me today was totally unexpected and just so perfect. He had ran to the PC room with hopes of calling me before I left for tutoring and he was successful. So how this connects back to my boxing and how it always jumps into my day at random points, Snickers called to tell me that he thinks he'll be able to attend my December 18th boxing fight... how awesome is that?!!!!

I thought he was supposed to be on a boat all the time except for 1-2 stops on land a month. Has his job changed?

Hi Anonymous,
Ya, things changed. After I had my accident and wasn't able to talk to him about it for approximently 2.5-3 weeks, he decided he had to change things. Nowadays he's working on a fish farm on land so he's able to now call me twice a day. Mind ya, they're working him even more as a slave now so I don't talk to him everyday. They have him working 12-13 hours a day, 7 days a week so it's a pretty brutal schedule. Add the fact that it's a 40 minute walk to where he's able to call me from and ya, harsh.
