As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Bloodly Mess... Thursday, March 10

At 4:30am Snickers returned from work and I was woken up by his reaction to the scene.

It looked as if a horror movie had played out in my kitchen.

As it turns out, while I was sleeping Mi Nam was sick in the kitchen. I slept through the whole ordeal so when I woke up at 4:30am to see the brutal blood-splattered kitchen floor I was horrified. I instantly rushed to Mi Nam, who was snoozing away in his little bed. He had no signs of cuts or blood on him, not even a scratch.

Back when Snickers first moved in, Mi Nam randomly acted out but never anything like this. It was more like the occassional eating of a shoe or jumping on the couch, nothing really big. Mind ya, all these situations occured when I was out of the house. Today's situtation was not one of these act-out moments. I was home when it happened.

I had to head off to Bundang for my daycare job so Snickers rushed Mi Nam to the vet. Mi Nam got a clean bill of health and was sent home with nothing more than "just watch him" instructions from the vet to Snickers.

Snickers was at the boxing club when I returned home after working at the daycare and again I was greeted with the same bloodly kitchen floor scene, though this time it was much worse. There was so much blood and I couldn't avoid it touching my toes as I tippy-toed across the kitchen. Mi Nam was fast asleep in his bed so I scooped him up and phoned Snickers, insisting we go again to the vet.

I'm not familiar with any of the fancy medical lingo that the vet threw in my direction but he reassured me that everything is ok with Mi Nam and that I shouldn't be worried. Snickers took in all the details, something about him eating too fast and the hard food cutting him as a result. I'm not sure if I buy it but will definitely be watching him like a hawk.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
How is a kitchen full of blood something to not be worried about?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...

Hi Anonymous,
Thank you for your concern. Yes, he was losing weight but he's been gaining it successfully. We've been feeding him extra food so I think the excitement of him getting all this excess food has been backfiring, hense the mess. He's been eating it way too fast and ends up choking a bit during doing so.

I know it's your blog/dog, but we really didn't need the visuals. That is so gross. As for the fancy medical lingo, probably he just has hemorrhoids.

gahd if I had seen that from my dog I would have flipped out. I hope he stays ok...

Eating too fast shouldn't cause blood to come out. Diarrhea, maybe, but no blood. I wouldn't trust the opinion of that single vet and instead take him to another one. Or at least insist on getting a blood test or something. What kind of doctor sends you back home and tells you "don't worry about all the blood coming out." If it's not ok with a child, it's not ok with a dog either. I'm sorry but that vet doesn't sound very competent. You're online all the time. Have you googled this to see what could cause it? Don't rely on the word of a single vet (who, based on previous visits, doesn't seem the most competent person ever).

Last year, this happened to my dog. Turned out he had liver problems. Very serious ones (he almost died). He'd been also losing weight and not acting "right." I would insist on a complete blood test to rule out elevated liver enzymes. I live in Asia too, and vets here tend to dismiss things at first because they're used to people not wanting to spend too much money on their animals. This is NOT a normal thing you just need to "keep your eyes on." What kind of stupid vet says that? Ask for blood work count to rule out something serious.
