It's been an extra busy week.
I had to take a day off yesterday to go to Daejon Immigration to deal with my F2 visa renewal... only to find out that some random worker had his info wrong and I didn't have to go to Daejon afterall. Long story, well not really, but I really don't want to get into it. Still a bit sour about the silliness of it all. New pet peeve -- incompetent people. Anyways, it's been a really busy week with work and working out, so I haven't been really up to posting lately. Well, that and the fact that Blogger has gone whacked, randomly messing up my formated posts. This weekend Mi Nam has his follow-up appointment to see how his most recent prescribed meds are going -- going great if you ask me but then again I'm no vet. Tomorrow Black Skinny has a fight out in Bucheon. It's at 3pm but we'll be heading out around 10am. Snickers is going to be one of the corner coaches and I'll be the ever-so "go kill him" cheerleader.
I love live bouts.
One of the things I've noticed about when it comes to Koreans cheering, they always cheer for their fighter, yelling out encouraging things like various punches to throw, reminding their boxer to watch their gaurd, and so on. However, in Canada we tend to lean more towards heckling our opponent. I love a good heckle but doing that here in Korea would make me stand out more than I already feel I do in a crowd of mostly male Korean boxing spectators. And so, on that note, I'm always sure to throw in some locker room smack talk prior to my team mate heading out to the ring for their fight. My team mates at UP Boxing used to laugh whenever I told them "Now go and kill" but it's become somewhat of a club saying now. So when I asked Junior Mint how he thought Black Skinny's fight will play out this Saturday, he turned to me and said "he's going to kill his opponent".
Of course he's not going to literally kill his opponent, relax. What he will probably kill though is whatever meal he downs after weigh-in today. He's lost about 10kgs for this fight -- 10kgs in about a month, yikes!
QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What is worth fighting for to you?
QUOTE OF THE DAY...
There are no failures - just experiences and your reactions to them.
-- Tom Krause
As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).
After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.
Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.
