As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

It's My Honor to Have Such a Cute Maid of Honor... Thursday, May 12

The only word I can think to even begin to describe today’s surprise wedding is amazing.

The children had prepared so much and I was quite impressed with not only the whole preparation and execution of it all but the great attention to details. They had organized the one half of the classroom to pose as a wedding hall/chapel, they had an MC, children who threw flowers during the Wedding march, and even a boy doing sound duty.

I had brought in a picture of my best friend’s wedding in which she had 5 bride’s maids (I being one of them). Many of the girls wore skirts today but five of them wore special dresses and five boys wore tuxedo suits – just like a Western wedding party. All the children had their specific roles and it was so cute how my “bridesmaids” kept me busy in the one corner of the room, away from being able to see the others prepare the room.

The mock wedding today was so much fun and I really liked how they arranged for a sit-down question and answer period after the ceremony. In small groups, they had prepared a couple of questions per group and it was interesting to note what details and whatnot they wanted to learn about Young Bin and I. Some of the questions included the following:

1. [to me] Why did you marry a Korean?
2. What do you two do for fun together?
3. Why don’t you have a baby?
4. Do you speak English or Korean to Mi Nam?
5. What is Amy’s mom’s name?
6. [to me] Does your husband speak English well?

Last night one of my co-teachers called to tell me of today’s surprise but honestly I didn’t expect such an elaborate production as what occurred today. Each and everyone in my classroom today – not only the children but my co-workers – definitely won a special place in my heart today. Snickers and I never had an official wedding. Our wedding basically consisted of walking in and out of Cheonan City Hall; consequently I’ve had lingering feelings about it all – how so many of whom I thought for sure would take some kind of initiative to celebrate it with us didn’t. I know it’s water under the bridge but sometimes I think about it from time to time and today it flooded over me. After our wedding party with my mini-Koreans, Snickers and I headed to the subway together. He was supposed to go to work but we ended up heading back to Cheonan together on account that I got all teary eyed and embarrassed in the subway station.

Today was definitely such a wonderful wedding and it was so awesome to share it with my mini-Koreans so regardless of past mixed feelings and let-downs, I am ever so thankful for today. Our wedding was definitely a one-of-a-kind wedding and it was filled with nothing but pure happiness, smiles, giggles, and lots of love. Much love to my husband and my mini-Koreans.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
How totally awesome are they?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
