Still NO WORD yet on our proposed building which, as you can imagine and assume, is so beyond frustrating that the word "frustration" doesn't even begin to shed light on what Snickers and I feel right now.
We just want to start our dream!!!
They called to tell us that their meeting has been postponed yet again. I'm so tempted to test my hand at poker here and tell them they have till the end of this week to tell us an answer or we'll go with our other building. We have no "other" building but they don't know that. Securing this building is the key to really starting everything because once we get the building we can give the renovators, electrician and the painters the go-ahead. We can register our company, print off our business cards, start advertising and finally let our secret loose -- tell Junior Mint. Snickers and I are equally in love with this building we're fighting so desperately for. It's perfect, beyond perfect for us actually. It's so perfect for what we want to do with it that even other boxing clubs have asked us how we got so lucky. We're putting all our hope into getting this building, it's our first choice -- it's our only choice -- and Snickers and I are well aware that we may have to beg for it. "If they say no", Snickers told me, "we're going to beg and beg." We're going to go there everyday and beg until they have no choice but to give it to us if just to get us to leave them alone. "We WILL get this building" he added.
In attempt at distracting ourselves from sitting around the house mumbling and grumbling, we went on a "business trip". Ok, so it wasn't exactly a business trip -- we're not even an official club yet but we've already scheduled lots of business meetings and road trips -- but it definitely was a cross-country trek we've been on the past two days.
Four boxing clubs, two exercise equipment shops, plenty of phone calls and four different cities... and I'm exhausted.
Ever since Snickers and I have been persuing this business venture, I've been increasingly interested and fascinated by other businesses. Driving down the street and using the Korean signs to practice my Korean reading has turned into me questioning who started each particular shop and why that business. Many Korean restaurants are family owned and operated so restaurants represent families to me now. I'm not interested in those who chose to jump in on a main chain business because there's strength in sporting a known name. I like the little guy, like the little bakery I visit in Mokcheon. He was doing really good until Paris Baguette opened up across the road. Mind ya, many people have remained faithful to him, he's still very much in business and I think that speaks loads about him and his business.
Tonight I headed out with Snickers to Suwon, to check out some exercise equipment. We headed up to a second floor shop that was so jam-packed with things we could hardly open the door. The business being run here was a second-hand shop for exercise equipment but what's so cool about it was that it wasn't just used equipment, it was used equipment that has been altered and upgraded. I think what happened was this man just got frustrated and decided that instead of trying to make the used equipment out to be something different that he was going to make something entirely new, and so evolved his own product line! He still takes used equipment and adapts them to today's standards but what Snickers and I are both really interested in are his custom made pieces. I think that's pretty cool how his whole business has evolved and I definitely respect and admire his passion and creativity.
If you look in the above picture, you'll be able to pick out two people at the back right of the room -- Snickers and the man. Snickers is in the white jacket and what he's looking at is a plastic covered custom made cable machine that we're really interested in. Many of these items that are visible to you in this picture are second hand because his custom items are on display on the first floor, but the two bright red items (the weight bench and weight rack at the front of the picture) are custom. He's got a love for bold colours so all this custom items are either painted in a super glossy bright red or deep yellow -- I love it!
