As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Karma in the Land of Opportunity... Monday, February 4

It’s been told that we’re all connected – six degrees of separation – but I’m convinced Snickers knows everyone via one or two degrees and he seems to be definitely reaping the benefits of his much built-up karma among them all! Proof of this was made so incredibly clear when we arrived for a business meeting at Mouse Doctor’s car shop. They’ve been really helping us out with our business plan and how to go about networking for it.

So there we sat, sipping on coffee and me trying to translate their business talk, when all of a sudden we dropped one company’s name and a coworker of Mouse Doctor cut in. “My wife works for them”, he told us, and with that he was asked to sit in on our conversation. Next thing I know it, he’s talking to his wife on the phone – she knows the manager of the chain branch in her company that actually owns the specific location we’re looking to start our boxing club at.

Prior to his ten minute phone call... we were all sitting there scratching our heads and trying to think of how to lower both the listed key deposit amount and rent.

During his ten minute phone call... we were all sitting there scratching our head and trying to hold our breath so we could listen in.

After his ten minute phone call... we were all sitting there scratching our heads and trying to wrap our brain around what just happened.

So what happened, you ask, well what happened was $10,000 was dropped off the key deposit and the rent was chopped by 2/3rds. So get this, not only is this place more than twice the size of the initial place but now it’s cheaper too! They’re practically giving it to us for free, seriously!

It was such an incredible turn of events. Snickers winked at me and whispered, “wait until we’re down the street”, which meant “wait until we’re down the street, then you can jump up and down and scream”. And that’s exactly what I did.

It’s not official yet, so we’re a bit nervous whether it’s too good to be true or not, but we’re banking on scooping this place up and making an official deal/contract by the end of this week. Oh Korea, home of opportunity, where everything and anything can happen.
