One last tournament today for rugby and we only won 1 of the 3 games. What can I say. It's unusual for us but we were also going against the varsity team, younger teams, that clearly could be my kids if I had kids that is.
They were younger, fresher, and I vouch full of that fearless energy that comes with being so young.
It was like the old skool crew against the new skool, with us being the old skool, of course.
Regardless, it was fun to get out and have one last tournament with the girls. I won't be training with them again till I return from Canada. I hung out with them a bit tonight, at the Christmas party. Coach Andy was there, as was my team's captain and many of the girls that didn't actually play in today's tournament.
Oh did I mention, my little niece has started playing rugby in Canada. Not too sure how my brother is taking it but knowing what I know and what I've experienced in playing rugby, yikes, I hope she has insurance. Rugby is a rough and tough sport, even if it is just touch she's playing. I can't see her not getting into full contact though and that's where the head injuries start. Touch rugby is all about sprained fingers and ankles, but full contact is about stitches and minor head concussions.
Perhaps it's a bit hypocritial of me but if I had a daughter I don't know if I'd like her to play full contact rugby. Of course I'd let her play touch but full... ?! Hmmm, I'm not sure. I'd let her but letting her and liking it is a whole other story. If she's anything like me, she's going to be extra rough and tough, fearless and bold.
