1. Turns out my student Chloe has been picking up same rather humorous English phrases by watching American English movies. Today as I passed him in the hall, he turned and said, “Yo baby!”
2. Today was the day of our big presentation to the Korean teachers regarding how Mrs. Chung and I prepared our two students for the big English contest… and guess who didn’t get to go, yup, me! Go figure. So much for this being our presentation. Apparently it’s cause these Korean/English teachers don’t understand the very subject they teach… hmm.
3. My curiosity in the qualifications of teachers here is really frustrating me. I find it interesting to note how some of these teachers (a good majority actually) can major in English, do the tests, get the marks, and then get the sweet job. BUT… apparently no one has bothered to have a simple conversation with them. I’m embarrassed for them!
4. Always am amused at the words and phrases my Korean friends and co-workers come up with. Today’s phrase of the day was “foot’s neck”… “Ah, I hurt my foot’s neck”… this of course referring to the word “ankle”. Ha, ha, ha.
5. Still reaping the royalties of the successful English contest. Today my student’s mother took me and Mrs. Chung out for a hearty meal at “The Rich House”… and yes, as the name implies, it’s definitely got rich taste. I ate a steak fit for a king!!!
6. Although I think my student’s mother is incrediably generous and sweet, I was rather confused to hear that she is an English teacher and yet she didn’t speak a word of English throughout the entire meal. Instead, I struggled with understanding her Korean and then having Mrs. Chung act as a translator.
7. My much anticipated new after school drama club (F.S. Talents) was a flop today as the kids refused to speak up and participate.
8. Chocking on a mouth full of peanut butter… not one of my finest moments today nor do I want to make a hobby of it. Dang… they should put a warning on Skippy!
9. Well, well, well… Byung Hyuk finally showed up at the gym for training. Mind ya, he was 40 minutes late and we didn’t actually train together. He came out to here to get the inside scoop on my latest “fan club member”… Yong Chan.
10. Turns out both Kim Tae and Byung Hyuk are definitely not fans of Yong Chan… they’re definitely anti-Yong Chan…ha, ha, ha. Well, I trust their judgement and so Yong Chan’s gotta go.
QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Is there something I'm missing here?
QUOTE OF THE DAY...
Common sense is not so common.
-- Voltaire
As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).
After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.
Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.
