1. Started my day off on a super akward note... Mr. P.E. Teacher was suppose to pick me up today but he showed up with Science Guy and so I sweated it out in the back trying to think of how to give my present to Mr. P.E. Teacher with out totally insulting Science Guy.
2. Arrived at school and headed off to Everland (huge amusement park) with my fellow staff and all my middle school students. Had a fun chat with Mrs. Chung in the super party bus we rented. 3. Arrived at Everland and ended up ditching the pack of teachers so that I could hang out with some of my students. Vanessa was so eager to walk around with me. She's so cute... she even held my hand.
4. Everland was packed with middle school and high school students and so line-up for the rides was super crazy. While we were in the various lines, we played some of the Korean hand games Byung Hyuk and Kim Tae had taught me the other day. They seemed to get amusement out of hitting each other... ha, ha, ha.
5. Was totally centered out while watching the parade at Everland. I wanted to take a picture of this super cute Korean guy but was being bombarded by these Russian dudes who were also in the parade. My students thought it was super ironic cause they know I don't really find Western men attractive and so one of them yelled out, "Ms. B loves Korean men!" Ha, ha, ha!!!
6. Funniest part was when we were waiting in line for the haunted house ride and some parent started arguing with the Everland worker. Some random highschool student behind me started added some sarcastic remarks, which were definitely not appreciated by the arguing man, and so I ended up exercising my Korean skills and stopping it all. My students were quite impressed. 7. Ryan picked me up at 1pm and then we drove back to Cheonan... surgery at 5pm! Did some more tests before my big surgery. They wouldn't let Ryan into the operating room and so I got so nervous. I knew the nurses were also nervous, due to the language barrier. They kept on telling me to stop shaking but I couldn't help it and so they had to hold me down... all three of them! One nurse had to hold my jaw shut. I was so nervous that my teeth had started to chatter. Another nurse held my legs down and the third one held my hands down. At one point I grabbed her hand but I think I ended up hurting her cause I squeezed it so tightly. I'm sorry.
8. My eyes were wired open but at one point the doctor pushed down on my eye and everything went black! I started to cry cause I thought I had gone blind. I didn't understand what was going on but then everything reappeared... but so did the smell of something burning. He was burning my cornea... ya, that was super freaky!
9. When I was younger, my mom once got me to memorize bible scriptures... one scripture for each letter of the alphabet. So, I tried hard to calm myself down by going through the alphabet of scriptures. I was so afraid I'd pass out! After 20 minutes it was all over and I left shaking like a super spooked patient! It's so wild to think that those 20 minutes ultimately have changed the rest of my life!!!
10. Once I got home, that's when it all went down-hill!!! Medication used during the surgery wore off and the pain was incredibly difficult to deal with! Ryan took care of me though... he's now called Nurse Perma (because he got his hair permed a few weeks ago.. it's a Korean thing). I briefly talked to my parents on the phone but that ended up getting me all worked up about the surgery. I couldn't think of anything but the surgery and so Nurse Perma put on the "Lake House" movie and I tried to replay the movie in my head while I listened. Finally I fell asleep...or passed out. One of the two.
QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Can you make this stop?
QUOTE OF THE DAY...
Whatever you do, don't move!!!
-- Eye surgeon
As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).
After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.
Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

I'm so glad that your surgery went alright even though it sounds like it was super scary.
