1. Today was a big day, filled with me actually socializing and interacting with those outside of my perfect bubble… hehehe.
2. It all started with a 9am phone call from my friend Woo who use to be a personal trainer at my old gym in Ssangyong-Dong. Turns out he knows the Hongik Oppa and Woo are friends and so Woo is working temporary at Hongik to help him out cause they flushed out most of the staff.
3. Felt so good to be back weight training and doing what makes my body feel so good. Trained biceps and chest today. Woo teased me about my Love in Asia appearance and joked that I was infamously known at Hongik… hehehe. I only saw a couple of familiar faces but ran into a friend of a friend on my way out, some girl named Jess.
4. Took the afternoon to play with Mi Nam, do some laundry, update my homepage, study Korean…
5. … and boxing, of course!!! I love Saturdays at the boxing club. Usually training on Saturdays at the club consists of blasting up the tunes in an empty club, no pad work, and definitely a more relaxed atmosphere. No body or head shots from Junior Mint, just solo training and laughing at Milk Dude as he tested out his new break dance moves.
6. Put my “Miss Anti-Social” crown on the shelf for the night and headed out to the Cheonites’ “Camerada Day” celebration party. It took me about two hours to finally convince myself to show up and so I showed up nice and late, after most had arrived… or so I thought. Wow… I’ve never seen so many foreigners here in Cheonan!!! Many replied on Facebook saying that they couldn’t come or might be coming but tonight there was about 40 people who showed up. Honestly, I’ve never seen these people before. Last week I only saw one foreign girl and how ironic, she was a no show.
7. Bill and Crystal had returned to Korea for a visit and so I picked a seat beside them and that’s where I sat for the rest of the night. Darren, my ex’s good friend, showed up and so I stuck with him.
8. The foreign crowd has never been my crowd of people. Actually, I think most people aren’t my kind of people, maybe.. maybe not. I don't know. I seem to be kind of picky with who I associate myself with though lately. I like sports and fitness fanatics, people who giggle rather than burst out laughing, those who aren’t into showing off or making public fools of themselves, and people who just like being mellow and having a good time. And so on that note, I warmed up to this girl, Ginger (not her real name but they kept on calling her that.. maybe it was cause of her hair, I don’t know). Anyways, Ginger and I chatted a lot and joked about both not wanting kids, of all things to talk about at a party. One of Ginger’s friends was Little Miss Cleavage-Grabbing who was overly drunk and thought it OK to roam the room grabbing and fondling the girls. I forewarned Ginger and told her to keep her friend away from me. Sure, OK, so she’s drunk, fine, but I am not nor do I agree with random people grabbing me like that. I took one look at Little Miss Cleavage-Grabbing and said, “Whatever you touch me with, you’re not getting back!” and so on that note she knew to not touch me… hehehe. I met another girl who was pretty cool, Miss Cheonan Cowgirl. With her dimpled cheeks and Emart cowboy hat on, she looked pretty friendly and, oddly enough, reminded me of my mom. Then there was the Meaty Boy who asked me a million questions about my boxing, repeatedly asked me to flex, and was down right silly and hilarious.
9. There was some kind of silly problem with the party’s bar tab and ‘so Darren and I split. We headed over to Mbar but then so did the rest of the party, that’s cool. Some of the girls were busting a move on the dance floor but I sat on the coach with some of the others, sipping on my milk and eating tofu and kimchi… hehehe. Yes, I did in fact order milk. I have no shame. Like I say, nothing tastes as good as being fit does. Mind ya, trying to order some kind of food somewhat nutritious and a drink that is both non-alcoholic or filled with sugar like most juices are was hard.
10. I had been out of the house for a good chunk of the night and so I was starting to worry about Mi Nam. He had to hold “it” in for too long and so I returned home to an overly eager little four-legged baby. Took him out for a walk and thought to myself, as much as it was nice to get out and meet new people, Mi Nam is cooler than most the people I met tonight… and more cutie… hehehe. And so on that note, I proudly put my Miss Anti-Social crown and snuggled with Mi Nam on my coach in my cozy, 1 person only house.
QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Am I seriously considered one of the vets. now?
QUOTE OF THE DAY...
Character is like a tree and a reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.
-- Abraham Lincoln
As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).
After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.
Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.
