As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Thursday, July 3

1. Big plans for the day: venture out of the house and do some socializing with people that aren’t either my boxing team mates, personal trainers at my gym… or have anything to do with my boxing or training. Today I was going to mingle with the locals… hehehe.

2. Mingling with those outside of my boxing bubble meant I was meeting up with Jae Min and Hanna. We met up nice and early, 10:30am. I suggested meeting early in the day because I knew it’d eliminate Jae Min wanting to go to a bar and Hanna wanting to go somewhere to eat.... see, there is a method to my madness ;)

3. The three of us headed to the Multiplex and caught an early showing of “Hancock”, starring the always so handsome and ultra funny Will Smith. It’s definitely not my kind of movie but Will Smith is always awesome and I liked the idea of a bad boy hero. Having grown up watching “Fresh Prince of Bellair” and having dated an ex-boyfriend that was practically obsessed with Smith, quoting him at every chance he got, it’s been really cool to see him develop as an actor. He went from being the smarta$$ on TV to becoming a handsome, talented and widely known actor. Good for him!

4. Spent my afternoon studying Korean for my vocab test… which, I must mention, is going to kill me! The test is only on the last three chapters we did but with 80-100 new words per chapter, it’s definitely not going to be easy. Vocab is my weakness!!!

5. As I headed out to boxing I was stopped at the doors by five high school boys who yelled out to me, “You from Canada?” “Yes, I am… you from Korea?” I joked. “Yes. You boxer! I watch you on TV. You danger girl!” one of them said. I was running late for boxing and so I had to get going but not before I gave them a smile and then they motioned for high fives…. Hehehe. I had a good giggle over that as I jogged off to boxing.

6. Some new girls joined my boxing gym today and so Junior Mint was busy setting them up with filling out forms and whatnot. I saw this as my chance to do some solo training and was hoping to skip out on pad work. I love pad work but today I started training with my dampou (sorry, I don’t know the English word for it… how ironic is that?!). Usually boxers only train with their dampou (it’s like a plastic shirt, or a kind of thicker windbreaker) if they have a game coming up because it traps in your body heat, thus making your heart beat fast and making you sweat like a mofu!!! But now that summer is here and I have this massive chunk of time on my hands, I really want to use this time productively and to it’s fullest. I already train hard and so I’m using my dampou to step my training up several notches… it’s definitely working!

7. No luck with missing out on pad work. After doing my full routine Junior Mint than yelled at me to gear up for the ring. I slipped into my gloves, stepped in the ring and then went four rounds…. Killer!!!

8. Training along side Black Skinny is always fun. He really should consider becoming a coach or some kind of teacher. He is always so encouraging but him making funny faces at me in the mirror while I skip totally crack me up. Introduced Black Skinny to the good old “Canadian jersey” move…. Hehehe. For those of you who don’t know what that is, well, basically it’s when you pull the back of the other person’s shirt over their head, leaving them unable to see. Thank you to Canadian hockey and the boys in blue for that move!

9. Tonight was Satoshi's (I think I spelt his name "Saetogee" before... my spelling is brutal) last night at boxing before he returns to Japan and so we all said our goodbyes and exchanged emails. I regret Q and I not taking him out more so that he could experience Korea with us more. He gave a huge thanks to us all for our friendship and so I hope to see him again. Hint, hint.. Q, let's go to Japan!!!

10. Two of my team mates and another boxer have a fight this upcoming Monday and so it’s been really interesting to watch them at training and see the whole process go down. Panty Boy Jr., Hollywood, and Dae Gyu have been training hard and dieting even harder. Poor Hollywood was forced to lose a lot of weight and honestly, I am rather concerned about him. He is already super small and now he’s even smaller, leaving him frail looking and tired. His energy level seems to be in the minus numbers but Junior Mint continues to train him hard, pushing him to spar a lot and leaving him exhausted after training. Many times I’ve seen him lying on the floor in a pool of sweat and with pain in his eyes, but then he gets up and continues… amazing. After training he then has to literally mop up his sweat with the nasty old mop… wow!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
How do they get the caramel in the caramilk bar?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
