1. I met Son Tae Jin!!! For those of you who have NO idea of who he is, here, let me enlighten you and culture you. Tae Jin just so happens to be a Taekwondo pro star here in Cheonan, winning a gold medal in the China 2008 Olympics and he just happens to be a university student here at my school, Dankook… and he just so happened to walk in my office today!!! Apparently he’s one of my coworker’s students… wicked!!! His English wasn’t very good and I’m sure he’s been asked a million questions about competing in the Olympics but I was so curious to ask him what he felt like when he was nexted to compete. Instead however, I stood there looking at him. He looked up and so I gave him a huge congrats, smiled and gave him the thumbs up.
2. Guess who else I just found out is also a student at my school… two members from the band 2pm, Park Jae Bum and Ok Taek Yeon!!! Very cool. See, Cheonan isn’t so countryville after all… hehehe… take that Seoul!
3. Exams started today for my students and so they all waited for me nervously outside the classroom. I wanted so badly to squeeze their cheeks and tell them, “Ohhh, you look sooooo cute!”… hehehe.
4. Much appreciation to my students, I tell ya, they REALLY pulled it off and blew me away with their exams. The task was relatively simple, they had to create a 2-3 minute dialogue between a tourist and a taxi driver. There were students posing as famous celebrities, tourists who got into verbal fights with the taxi driver, others who made their tourists rude or broken hearted. I was really impressed and so it made for an awesome first day of exams!!!
5. Having my students do their exams in partners means half the time required, bonus for me cause this means I leave school early and arrive at boxing even earlier!
6. Whipped off the top and dropped the drawers today for weigh-in at boxing.
7. My eating today was super clean, I ate my meals exactly at the times planned, and I felt no cravings… yet. The cravings will come, I know, but the satisfaction of proving my buddy wrong and winning this beat is what reminds me to stay focused.
8. Tonight I had a first… I actually left my house and ventured out to socialize… hehehe. Later in the evening I headed over to Side Salad’s house for a movie. He leaves just around the corner from where I use to leave in Ssangyong-Dong, back when I worked at a hagwan some three years ago. The whole neighbourhood has changed and so I felt kind of uncomfortable being a stranger in a place I use to love.
9. Problems with my movies and his laptop so the movie was a no go but with all those English channels on his TV, wow, I’m jealous… hehehe. Side Salad tried to make small talk but once my eyes hit the TV screen, I was like a horse with blinders on. Now I know why I don’t watch TV; I’d get nothing done if I did. Finally got to see what all the hype about the show CSI was about. That show’s great!!!
10. Am seriously thinking that I have some major social issues… I’m joking, well, not really. I don’t really like hanging out at people’s houses and I especially don’t like using their bathrooms. I held out like a super trooper for about an hour until I finally returned home… hehehe.
QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Do you have any quirks?
QUOTE OF THE DAY...
The mind is like an iceberg, it floats with one-seventh of its bulk above water.
-- Sigmund Freud
As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).
After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.
Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Hi Amy,
This is a totally off topic question (sorry) but I was wondering if you could tell me where you got your Korean name necklace made. You see, I'm hoping to get one made but so far it seems that most places only do name necklaces with English characters, not Korean. Anyway, any tip or lead would be really appreciated it. I'm living in Seoul so you'd think I'd be able to find a place without difficulty. Thanks for your time. My email is blackdove_77athotmaildotcom Thanks again and sorry to bother you.

Hey Amy!
My school had a similar experience. A graduate of my school from a few years got a Silver in the 100m Hurdles in the China Olympics, and then came to our school for the day.
TV can be soo addicting. I cant help but watch "Dexter", "Friday Night Lights", and last night I saw the last episode of "Boston Legal".
Im not really into detective shows, but im a sucker for a chick flick :P
My exams are coming up soon, and Ill have to do the SAT and ACT in Jan and Feb...so scared ><

Hey Ambearo,
No bother.... ;)
My necklace... I got it at Yawoori, a local shopping mall here in Cheonan. There's a bunch of jewelery places in Yawoori and they had them on display. I'm sure many jewelery shops in Seoul make them. Just go in and see if they have any on display. Name necklaces are pretty popluar. It seems like every second student in my classes here at the university are wearing them. I suggest going to a major department store and checking out their jewelery counters. If all else fails, you can always take trip out to Cheonan ... hehehe.
Yo B-man,
Ya, it's pretty cool having an athlete like that around. Very inspiring to me!
As for TV, I've never heard of those shows and I'm glad I haven't. I'd probably be watching them too... hehehe.
All the best with your exams. I'm sure you'll do awesome!!!

LOL! Let me "enlighten" YOU and "culture" YOU...
He's a swimmer, goddammit!
Now, show us some sexy boxing pics.
Yo Bad Lieutenant,
Yes, oops... my bad. See, it just goes to show you that I can't work and play at the same time... hehehe. Thanks. I'll correct it. I guess writing on several homepages got me mixed up.
Um. And the sexy boxing pics?
