As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day.. Thursday, December 18

1. Numerous students thought that it’d be ok to skip today’s class… wrong, so wrong. Missing one of my lectures is minus one PERCENT… that’s huge! So, in addition to spending my whole weekend and week calculating and rechecking all the marks, I then had to do it all over again because of absent students… ahhhh!!!

2. Last semester there was this one particular boy in one of my classes who always slept through my lectures or spent most of it in a daze. I had him again this semester but was very happy to see a drastic change in his behaviour. Sure, he still comes to class sleepy and keeps quiet but now he tells me when he doesn’t understand things and many times he asks me for extra help in class. When I calculated his grade this past week, he came up one percent short of a pass. I couldn’t fail him though, not after seeing the before and after he’s become. Today he missed class, adding an additional minus one percent. Now I have no choice but to fail him. He broke the Dankook “miss 1/3 of the classes equals an automatic F” rule… ahhhh!!!

3. Having to fail my student whom I’ve been rooting for all semester really hurt. I felt so disappointed. If only he had showed up today.

4. My all-boys class eagerly filed into my classroom and showed up super early, like always. Two students whom I was expecting to show up didn’t and so I felt rather sad knowing that I never really got the chance to officially say goodbye to them.

5. Received an email later on in the day from one of the students I was expecting to see today in my all-boy’s class. He apologized for today and reassured me that he will miss me greatly… me too.

6. I don’t know whether to be happy or not that I’ve now officially have started my winter vacation. At the start of each semester I feel so fresh with ideas, so full of aspirations and eager to get to class, but by the end of the semester I feel mentally drained. Keeping track of over 200 students really gets to you. There’s non-stop student emails, the homepage I update each week for them with homework answers and lecture notes, creating my Power Point lecture files, marking quizzes, and the list goes on. I do love my job though. The students take a lot out of me but I get back so much from them.

7. Junior Mint is just mere days away from his come back fight. He’s feeling great, looking great, right on par with his weight requirements, and is eager to fight. Big fight set for this Saturday, 2pm.

8. As for me, I was looking good but not feeling so great. I’m still trying to make up for that ice cream and cake I ate. I ate it knowing full well too that it’d sabotage my diet and put me back at least two or three days considering I very, very rarely eat any sweets or junk food. I’m the girl that brings tomatoes and water to the movie theatre for goodness sake. Anyways, it was Q’s birthday and the last day of school with my Tuesday morning class and so I’ll sacrifice the 2-3 days for them, knowing that the memory with them was worth it.

Day 1: 55.15kgs = 121.33lbs
Day 2: 54.62kgs = 120.16lbs
Day 3: 54.28kgs = 119.42lbs
Day 4: 54.40kgs = 119.68lbs
Day 5: 54.00kgs = 118.80lbs
Day 6: 53.82kgs = 118.40lbs
Day 7: no weigh-in, gym closed
Day 8: 53.83kgs = 118.43lbs
Day 9: 53.12kgs = 116.86lbs
Day 10: 53.80kgs = 118.36lbs
Day 11 (today): 53.7okgs = 118.14lbs
Weight lost so far: 1.45kgs = 3.19lbs

9. Day two of not pooping. Dang that ice cream and cake!!! My body use to live off that stuff, now it rejects it and apparently it’s quite clear with telling me too… yikes.

10. You know you’re way too comfortable with someone when you can discuss “bathroom things”… hehehe. Turns out ice cream has the same effect on Q… hehehe. I know, I know… too much information.

Hey Bman,
"Jayingly"?! ... what's that? First thing that came to my mind was "Jay-Z" and "jaywalking"... hehehe.
Yes, sorry about all the poop stories... hehehe. Thanks for implying that I am beautiful ;)

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the tip and yes, I totally agree with you. I hate using the word "diet", it's more of a lifestyle change than a temporary thing. The word "diet" is so misleading, I know. People seem to think it's a short term thing when in fact it's a longterm lifestyle change that includes both better food choices and habits, and exercise.
Any suggestion for an alternative word I could use?
