As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Tuesday, April 9

1. She showed up, he didn’t show up though. Who, you’re probably asking… my two-weeks-till-she-fails student. She showed up for class today like she had promised on Tuesday, and yes, I’m well aware that that’s an awful way to refer to her, sorry.
2. My everything hurts. My body hurts from boxing; my head hurts from the excessive demand of my Korean by particular students; my heart hurts for my student who told me today she just lost her mother; and my feet hurt from those evil, evil shoes I so carelessly disregarded comfort for!!! As for the student who informed me today as to why she missed my lecture last week, I really didn't know what to say and so I hugged her.

3. After more than a week of patiently waiting, I remain “friendless”. Yup, it’s true. I got a couple of responses from my language partner want-ad but nothing became of it. Nothing became of anything actually. Q blames it on the boxing picture I posted, saying that maybe it scared people away. Oh come on… it’s not like I was posting a who-wants-me-to-punch-them ad. Never the less, I guess I’m stuck practicing my new vocab with Mi Nam… dang.

4. After a painful day for my right foot, I somehow made my way home, showered, and then headed back to school to meet up with Buff Boy the Original.

5. Ice cream cones and a very brutally open and crazy-honest controversial conversation was what we indulged in as we sat outside on the school benches. Chats with him are never about simple things... hahaha.

6. Got a most unexpected phone call today from the Korean Boxing Commission (KBC) and I’m still not too sure what it’s all about. All I know is that man on the end of the line spoke English and personally invited me to attend a big meeting next Thursday in Seoul at the Boxing Commission Office and not even Black Skinny, Panty Boy Jr., nor Junior Mint have been invited! Very strange… very exciting.

7. After the “interesting” chat with Buff Boy the Original, I had to rush off to Coffee Bean to meet up with another friend of mine, Flower Child and her Boo. They’re both moving to America this Saturday with dreams and hopes of mastering the English language in the US. “Just don’t get shot” was my advice… hahaha.

8. Boo and Q are quite similar in thinking and so it’s always interesting picking his brain about certain issues. Today we talked a lot about how guys continually use and abuse holidays for things that really deserve their own days, like proposing on Valentine’s Day or giving someone a couple ring on Christmas…. not that I’m speaking of personal experiences here or anything L. I’m all for couples making their own special days as supposed to using Hallmark-made holidays as a crutch.

9. Later on, when at boxing, I redialed the KBC number for Junior Mint of the man who had called me. Turns out it was an American man, not an English-speaking Korean which doesn’t sound like a big deal unless you take into consideration that I’ve never seen any foreigner working for the KBC. No sooner did I hang up the phone but then the boys at the boxing club start talking. They all think it has something to do with my 4th place Korean ranking. Junior Mint is convinced that they’ve got plans for me -- and money -- plans that will be what will keep me in Korea for yet another year. I doubt that but wouldn’t it be completely awesome if I showed up next week and they said “Amy, we want to make you our next Korean champion and will do anything and everything possible to support and help you achieve this.” Of course it’s only my fancifully thinking but wouldn’t that be so incredible?!

10. Black Skinny is still going hardcore with training and so tonight I trained beside him. He’s lost a lot of weight for his Monday fight and so his abs have arrived. As for the other guy tonight who’s all about showing off his body and loving the club mirrors, tonight I kind of punked him off when I flexed and commented that my arm looked more defined than his… hahaha. He’s such a “Butt’er Face”… everything’s nice BUT his face… hahaha. Mean but true.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What world have you created in your head?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
No matter where you go or what you do, you live your entire life within the confines of your head.
