As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Thursday, October 22

1. After my exams finished today, I jumped into a cab and booted it over to the other university for my interview. It felt like my Dankook interview all over again. I say that because when I initially handed in my application and whatnot to Dankook I really wasn’t interested in it, nor was I particularly interested in it once they actually offered me the job. At the time I was working at Eumbong Middle School and loving it, absolutely loving it, but I took my job at Dankook because I thought it would spruce up my resume nicely and I liked the challenges it posed with having to teach at a much higher level of schooling that I was use to.

2. As for today’s interview, despite the things in the job description that I really didn’t care for, I thought I’d keep an open-mind and give it a chance.

3. Arrived at the beautiful university campus and walked into my interview. I was being interviewed by two middle aged men and another man sat in on while we talked. I’d have to say that about 50% of our chatting was directed towards my boxing. They made it known to me that they knew of me because of my media coverage and so they curiously asked a million and one questions about my boxing. Once my interview was over, I then sat with one of the men and we continued to talk about boxing. He and his wife then dropped me off at the bus stop and off we parted our separate ways.

4. Despite the work hours at this university consisting of 9-6pm, five days a week, and despite the pay being lower than Dankook, they offer four and a half months of vacation, I’m not required to prepare anything because I’d be more like a campus tutor than a professor, and they’re super flexible with what I’d actually be doing on campus as work. Everyday students would have the chance to come to me for extra help on what ever English homework they’re struggling with and I’d be allowed to set up my own English clubs if I want something that’s more of a regular thing than a kind of drop-by thing. “We have a new gymnasium, so feel free to use that” one of my interviewers told me, and with that the gears in my brain started to work in full gear. “So if I wanted to workout on campus, with students, and call it some kind of English club, I could?” I asked. “Sure!” And so that was the hook that lured me in. I could start my own kind of personal training on their campus and as long as I’m speaking English than I’d be getting paid for it…. Sweet!!!

5. Treated myself to a home cooked salmon steak and Caesar salad. I’ve never cooked salmon before but it was super easy and even more delish than easy!!! Mind ya, it stank up Guum Ggum!

6. No sooner did I induldge in my salmon steak but then it was lights out for me. I crashed on the couch and later, while in the middle of a nightmare, I woke up to a pitch-black house and someone pounding away on my door. It was like an instant head rush, a sensory overload, and I had no idea what the heck was happening. Turns out it was Snickers.

7. So much for Snickers and his “I’ll see you tomorrow” comment he made earlier on today. That boy simply can’t stay away from me. We made this rule that we can’t be away from each other more than two nights a week, but, on average, we are usually only away from each other one or two nights a month.

8. Junior Mint has been away all this week and so I’m craving pad work like crazy. He will be returning tomorrow. Tonight Snickers and I headed out to boxing together. Because of the fact that he still can’t train with his right hand, he’s been training only with his left. Tonight some members at UP thought they’d make him the butt of their joke and so they snickered away while Snickers trained. I found it rather annoying considering they had no idea who he was or why he was training with only one hand and so I took it upon myself to shed some light on the situation when they tried to amuse me with their lame joking. “Ya, him fighting with one hand is pretty funny. The fact that he broke his hand on some guy’s face in the first round is even funnier.” And with that they stopped fighting. I’m not one to fight my boyfriend’s fights but sometimes it’s fun to get my kicks out of putting people in their place.

9. It’s funny how much Snickers’ manners have changed at the boxing club since I first met him. He use to be the quiet guy who came with his coach, and he was talked about but not talked to. He did his own thing, trained hard and then left. When we first started to date I noticed him opening up a bit, especially to my teammates. He’d still do his own thing with training hard but after training he’d stick around to talk to the guys. He never really talked to me, instead, it was his coach who always talked to me. It wasn’t until we really started to date that he then got chatty at boxing. He no longer was the quiet guy training alone but instead the one approaching the younger boxers and trying to help them with their training.

10. He bloomed and he is still blooming. He is Bloom Kim.
