As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Tuesday, October 20

1. Today was the first day off since my days off in the summer that I had absolutely no school work to do…. no quizzes waiting to be marked, no tests to make, no notebooks to mark, and, most importantly, no Power Point lecture files to create.

2. So what did I do with all my time today, you ask. I slept most of the day away. That is, I slept a good chunk of it away after I returned from early morning weight training.

3. Yesterday I decided to sit down and fill out a job application for a local university that’s hiring for March. I’m still contemplating what I’m doing next year and whether or not I want to renew my contract at Dankook, but I thought about seeking out my other options.

4. Apparently Snickers took it upon himself to mail out my application when he discovered my addressed packed envelop sitting on the table yesterday. I hadn’t finished filling it up with all required contents and I noticed it missing today. I thought I had simply misplaced it.

5. That university called me today. Turns out not only did Snickers mail it but he had it mailed with rush delivery.

6. University interview was officially set for this upcoming Wednesday at 3:30pm.

7. Definitely got my beauty sleep today and then I definitely got the beats when I showed up at boxing. Junior Mint wasn’t there to give me his usual “hard-lesson-beatings” but I got them just the same from Panty Boy Jr. and Motor Cross.

8. Got word that Milk Dud lost his fight. Actually, as it turns out, Junior Mint threw in the white towel during the fight. Not too sure what all went down but I definitely want to hear this story once these two return.

9. Ended my evening on a very sad note. Today K-Gere called up Snickers to discuss Grandpa-K’s future, and lack there of it in their eyes. Grandpa-K isn’t doing well at all, to say the very least, and so K-Gere phoned to tell us that he’s been given 10 days to live. Snickers is very close with his grandfather and up until recently, his grandfather has never missed one of Snickers’ fights. Surprisingly enough, Snickers seem to take the news well but I was left sitting in tears. I only had my Baba (it means grandmother in Polish). She died when I was 13 and then my so-called adopted grandmother, Grandma Burge, died a couple of years later. Now I have no grandparents but I always envied my friends for having them. Grandpa-K is a pretty cool grandfather and I had kind of adopted him as my own.

10. Within a matter of literally minutes, Grandpa-K’s 10 days got pushed down to one day. Snickers and K-Gere have decided to take Grandpa-K off his life support machine, out of the hospital and take him back to his home in the country. K-Gere’s conversation with Snickers was brief because he then had to call the rest of the family and arrange for them to come to Grandpa-K and Granny-K’s house tomorrow. I was shocked when I heard the news but agreed that it was for the best. Grandpa-K has been in the hospital now living off a machine and considering the he’s away from his wife and family, and he’s only allowed an hour and a half total a day for his visitors, he’s really not living much of a life. I rather have one good day with my close friends and family than a couple of weeks waiting for the time to tick by and only being allowed a “tease” visit from those whom I love. Tomorrow we’re all expecting it to be Grandpa-K’s one good day and his last day of life.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What's so good in saying good-bye?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
Grandfathers are just antique little boys.
