As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Wednesday, April 14

1. Headed off to Seoul for my meeting with Arirang TV. One of the show’s directors and two associates interviewed me. Questions were asked in English but I was asked to answer in Korean. This went on for about an hour and I quite enjoyed it.

2. Initially, I was under the impression that the job was for a TV show host position. Turns out it’s for several hosting positions and each host will host two episodes. They’ve created a new show which is basically a travel and life show for foreigners living in Korea based on Korea and it’s culture. With each episode, they go to a different destination in Korea and show case a part of it’s culture. Destinations range from temple stays and traditional markets, to the beaches of Busan and ocean fishing.

3. Snickers, being the world’s best husband that he is, had traveled all the way out to the Arirang TV building in Seoul with me today to make sure I found my way there and arrived safe. Upon reaching Arirang, he then had to race back to Cheonan for an interview. Problem though, I had his keys in my purse and he had the only money I had brought with us in his pocket!!!

4. No worries though. Snickers figured out how to break into our apartment, our THIRD floor apartment… great. Not too sure on how he did it. He must have scaled the wall or something. As for me, I milked my cuteness for all it’s worth. I had no money to buy a bus ticket home, so I started to ask a couple of people to help me out. Mind you, when I clued into some random young Korean business man watching me, I played up the innocent victim role and pretended to look as if I was going to let loose a tear. It worked, and not only did I score a free bus ticket home to Cheonan but he also insisted I let him buy me something to eat for my ride. Scored a tuna sandwich and banana milk. We sat and chatted while I waited for my bus. As far as I was concerned, the only string attached was he made me promise him that if I ever needed any paralegal advice that I’d give him a call.

5. In addition to Arirang TV, I had four other random job offers offered to me, one of which is for a commercial with Fila!!!

6. My phone conversation with the agent arranging the Fila commercial was a perfect example of how things can get lost in translation. Today’s lost in translation word was ‘tumble’. I thought it odd that the agent sounded so impressed and relieved to hear that I could do a front tumble and back tumble. “I learned how to tumble when I was a child” I told him. After the conversation ended and I had agreed to do the commercial, I started to ponder why exactly he seemed so relieved that I could tumble. When Snickers returned home I asked him if he could tumble. I told him that I could but when I showed him my tumble he laughed out loud and insisted I was wrong. Turns out they meant ‘handspring’ instead of ‘tumble’. My jaw dropped at the realization. “I can’t do a front handspring or a back handspring!” I told him. “Well, you have till next week to learn” he said.

7. Got word that the KIA commercial I did, featuring the Wonder Girls, hit the TV screens today. Thanks to all who texted me… hahaha.

8. Finally, my 2010 professional boxing license card arrived for me at the boxing club.

9. Today was certainly an eventful and well-packed day but the evening wasn’t as eventful as the day time. In the evening Snickers and I headed off to boxing where we arrived to a packed club. Panty Boy Jr.’s fight is but only a couple of weeks away, so in addition to Junior Mint trying to jungle doing pad work with everyone, he also had to focus in on Panty Boy Jr.’s training. I never did get to do pad work, was a bit disappointed with that, but I did get in many good rounds of tough pounding away at the sand bags.

10. The rest of the evening was pretty low-key. It consisted of me basically eating a chicken Cesar salad, watching ‘Project Runway’, and then me falling asleep while Snickers rubbed my feet.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Are you honestly reading what I am writing for the sake of what I am writing or for HOW I am writing?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
Genius may have its limitations, but stupidity is not thus handicapped.
