To sum up all that went down tonight at my [Flipside Fitness] first hosted dinner party, I'd have to say pure success. Three of my male Korean friends showed up at the meetup spot to drive those lovely ladies attending my dinner party while Big Foot and I set up the party favors at the restaurant.
All the ladies knew that this was a dressy event and I anticipated them getting glammed up for it but when they arrived and stood before my eyes I was completely shocked. They all looked so incredibly beautiful!
Cheonan never looked so good -- the women of Cheonan that is;)
A total of 13 lovely ladies joined me at one long table in a private room I had arranged for us at 5-Star's restaurant. And when they first arrived I handed them all individually an "Ask Me About" sticker to wear. I had written down various "Ask Me About" things on name tag stickers the other night, hoping it'd be a nice icebreaker. They ranged from funny and silly to somewhat serious or sensitive. My "Ask Me About" sticker read "Ask me about my super power as a woman" while others read "Ask me about my first kiss", "Ask me about my secret talent", and so forth. I figured most of the ladies wouldn't know each other so an icebreaker would be needed. Good thinking on my part, I say, because it worked like a charm.
During dinner I went up to each lady and had them pick from a stack of cards I had made. Each card consisted of a question, similar to the "Ask Me About" stickers. I anticipated them chatting among themselves but what ended up happening was we all discussed our answers as one big group and many offered answers that were somewhat personal in nature. It felt so awesome to see that I had brought all these ladies together and there we were talking about personal things when just an hour or two ago we had no idea who each other was. We ended up chatting so much among our group that the restaurant had to come and tell us to leave. It was past 10pm and the restaurant was now closed.
I definitely am eager to plan more event, for sure!
Next event I've got in mind is for Black Day, April 14th -- it's like the Valentine's Day for singles. I want to do a chocolate theme event with wine and chocolate being the two main things on the menu and a murder mystery being the main activity. It's going to be awesome and all ready my mind is buzzing with ideas and whatnot surrounding it.
It'd also be wicked to do a kind of girls night in -- rent some super girly movies, do facials and all that overly girly stuff I never was really into but think will be super fun to try.
As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).
After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.
Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.
