As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Another Goodbye... Tuesday, May 22

Today I saw one of the most heart-wrenching scenes my eyes have ever seen.  It was right up there with the time my father laid his upper body on my mother’s casket and said “My baby…”

Strangely enough, today’s sad event also happened to occur on my mother’s birthday.

When Snickers got the phone call, telling him something had happened to one of Mouse Doctor’s dogs, we quickly jumped in our van and headed over to his house – Snickers, Wonder Boy and I.  We arrived to find Mouse Doctor sitting on the ground petting a very mangled and very bloody Jaun Ji – one of his dogs.  As it turns out, Jaun Ji had got out of the house and into the yard where Dong Kae and Jin (his other two dogs) were.  Dong Kae and Jin are still puppies so when an older Jaun Ji greeted them they instantly tried to wrestle him.

Jaun Ji was no match and the wrestling turned deadly.  Mouse Doctor arrived home from work and was greeted by quite the disturbing mess in his front gated-in yard.  The death of Jaun Ji marks the second dog in a month Mouse Doctor has had to say goodbye to unfortunetly.  Mouse Doctor lives in a very old fashion house with it’s main bathroom located outside of the main house, like an outhouse.  About two weeks ago another one of his pups fell into the outhouse hole.  When Mouse Doctor discovered the pup, he took him out of the hole but he was already long gone so he washed him, dried his fur and then took him to the mountain to bury him.

Today he buried another one of this four-legged friends.

Cheeto Girl instantly left work when she got word of Jaun Ji and joined us at Mouse Doctor’s house, he still sitting on the ground and petting Jaun Ji’s body.  I refused to just leave him there and instead insisted that Snickers and I help him bury Jaun Ji.  We stood around, all of us not really knowing what to say, all starring at Jaun Ji’s lifeless body, and then Mouse Doctor disappeared in his house for a bit of privacy.

We then decided it best we head up to Tae Du Mountain and give little Jaun Ji a proper burial so that’s what we did.  In stellitto heels I trekked up the mountain and then we all took turns digging away at a hole.  While Snickers and Wonder Boy were shoveling away at the hole, I caught glimpse of Mouse Doctor slipping something into the box Jaun Ji was lying in.  It was a letter, a letter he had written to Jaun Ji when he left us outside earlier.
Mouse Doctor stood there with his eyes closed and hands clasped, possibly praying, while we covered Jaun Ji’s box with the loose dirt we had dug up.  We then headed back down the mountain and got into our cars.  Snickers dropped me off but then headed back to Mouse Doctor’s house with Wonder Boy.  Jaun Ji was originally Mouse Doctor’s sister’s dog so now he has to break the news to her.

I feel a bit sick at how Jaun Ji died and definitely uncomfortable at how he looked.  My heart definitely goes out to him and I can only hope he’s not as heartbroken about the whole ordeal as I was when Mi Nam died.
