As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

KO in the Middle of the Street... Saturday, May 26

The unimaginable happened today.

After an hour long walk, romping around by the river side and wrestling by Dankook lake, Pyen Chi turned all baby and looked at me as if to say, “Carry me!”

Yes, I carried her…. not after trying to convince her to walk or somewhat push her. She did the whole “jelly-legs”, dropping her legs and allowing her whole body to simply flop down. We weren’t exactly in a suitable spot for her to rest either, after all it was in the middle of the road where she pulled this stunt. She refused to get up. Traffic was barreling down the road so I had no choice but to squat down and use every ounce of strength in my arms and legs to pick her up.

I hadn’t brought Balboa with us but I had packed a backpack with a full water bottle, bowl and treats for her. Thank goodness I didn’t bring Balboa too because what ended up happening was I carried Pyen Chi home for a good block or two.

I carried my 45kg baby girl. Talk about a workout. I laughed at what people seeing me must be thinking and I felt like I was on the TV show “World’s Strongest Man”. You know, the show where these freakishly stronger-than-life men pull school buses and do squats with motorcycles. There I was, walking down the street carrying Pyen Chi.

At first I thought she may have been suffering from heat stroke or was dehydrated but she had drank almost all of the two liter water bottle plus some water at Dankook. It’s her fur coat. I can’t imagine how exhausting it must be to be wearing a thick fur coat in this weather.

I’m considering shaving her.

I once had a cat, Rocky, who was a beautiful cat with long, long fur. I shaved him one summer and though you couldn’t help but feel embarrassed for him every time you looked at him, he loved it. He loved the freedom he had from not having to wear his fur coat and he loved the extra attention it got him. Everyone and anyone who saw him wanted to pet his naked skin.

Perhaps I’ll shave Pyen Chi. She’s sporting her summer coat which I must admit is so much thinner than her winter coat but it’s still a burden to wear in this heat. And to think, it’s not even summer yet.

I don't know if I would shave her. I would definitely take her to a groomer and get a close cut! I know I would about messing up the under-coat and also a sunburn...mostly the sunburn if you walk her a lot during daylight. Props to you for walking so long with such a heavy dog!!! Best of luck in making your decision.
