As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Round for Round... Thursday, May 24

It was quite a busy day for me here in Cheonan but I definitely loaded up on some me-time, cooking time, and chillaxin’ time with Pyen Chi and Balboa.  After a day of catching up on this I needed to do, I headed out to UP.

Tonight at UP Boxing Club we had our monthly amateur sparring tournament.  I was anticipating sparring tonight despite still nursing a questionable injury, but there was no opponent available.  I can’t fight with the girls because none of them but Little Princess D (a 10year old that I could never bring myself to hit) has ever sparred.  I have three sparring partners but one of them is recovering from breaking his hand (the Cheonan Bulldog), another is away at school (Captain Jab) and so that only left me with the Korean Hornet.

“I can’t spar tonight” he told me, “I’m getting married on Saturday.”
I laughed and told him that was a cheap excuse.  The guys teased him and said perhaps he thinks he’ll get hurt… hahaha.

So no ladies sparring tonight but some key ladies were in attendance.  Bella Punch, my back-in-the-day sparring partner came out tonight.  I rarely see her at training though I knows it’s because her husband doesn’t want her to train with me.  So I hurt her nose once, it was during sparring.  We both got over it.  Apparently her husband still hasn’t.

One of my boxercise gals came out to watch the event so that was pretty cool.  She and I were talking when Bam-Bam-Bo-Ram came walking in.  The other day Bam-Bam-Bo-Ram asked me if any of my so-called women (and by that she meant any of my boxercise ladies) would be coming out to spar tonight.  She says they need “to represent” but I don’t think UP is quite ready for my ladies.  They definitely would come packing fierceness.  The plan is to get one of my boxercise girls to participate in next month’s amateur sparring tournament so I’m going to start doing pad work with my Advanced Boxercise girls.
