LETTER I RECEIVED TODAY...
Hi!
My name is Michele Matthews and I am Team Fenom's consulting executive editor and publicist. I'm writing because a while ago, you signed up to contribute content to Team Fenom. I hope you checked out the site after it launched on Monday as we want your feedback (thoughts, questions and concerns) regarding the content. Additionally, I am really interested in finding out what kind of stories you'd like to write for us. For instance, are you interested in covering and writing recaps about games, events, etc? Or, do you prefer to come up with fun features like polling questions or top ten lists? Perhaps, you want to make a more in depth contribution in the form of opinion pieces about something happening in women's sports (or health and fitness)? Please let me know and send me your story ideas. If you know what kind of stories you want to contribute, but don't have a specific idea, either me or assistant executive editor Erica Franklin (copied on this email) can send you some ideas. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
Best,
Michele :)

MY RESPONSE...
Dear Michele,
Thank you and yes, I am definitely
interested in contributing to your Team Fenom website. I think it’s important for us women to bond together and encourage each other with our fitness stories of both triumph and hardships, so thank you for contacting me.
To briefly introduce myself, my name is
Amy. I’m a Canadian female who has been
living in South Korea for almost 8 years now.
About 4 years ago I turned professional with my boxing but because
female professional boxing is often not socially accepted or given the due
respect and seriousness that the men in my sport get, it is often discouraging
and hard. Moreover, now that I am
married to a Korean man, there is definitely added pressure for me to get a
steady job or have children. My husband
is also a professional boxer – former Super Light Champion. He
is very supportive of me and I am very grateful to have him in my corner, not
only in the boxing ring but also in life.
Late last year I created my own fitness
company – Flipside Fitness – and started teaching boxercise classes and do
personal training. My intention of
making this company was not to necessarily profit from it financially but to utilize it as a means of making my city here in Korea more female-fitness friendly, especially
among my fellow foreign women. I now
have about 73 women connected to my fitness company and my company is sponsored
by Adidas (they also sponsor me personally with my boxing).
As a female in professional sports, I find
the intentions of your website to be very encouraging to me and not solely
because I’m a female but because I’m a female going against the social norms of
where I live. I find it encouraging to
read about the strength and sheer determination of other athletic females so I
am more than happy to assist you with your website and contribute stories. Just tell me what kind of story you want or
bounce some ideas around with me and I’ll gladly write you a piece for your
website.
