As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

A Fitness-Fanatic Day... Thursday, June 1

Today’s Schedule:

12:30pm – personal training meeting with a client (running)
4:00pm – full body circuit
7:00pm – personal training meeting with a client (weight training)
8:30pm – boxing
10:30pm – mountain hike

Thursdays always seem to be fitness-fanatic days, always overloaded with training.  Whether it’s my own personal training, training my personal clients, or taking Pyen Chi and Balboa out for their daily rounds of exercise, the saying “no rest for the wicked” pops in my mind on Thursdays.

A new crew of six high school students signed up at UP Boxing Club tonight so the club was packed when I went in for training.  Mind ya, because these six young guys were new, they did the typical stop, stare, and wait-for-what-to-do-next so I tried to help Junior Mint out by telling them what to do next.  Ended up putting them through a couple of grueling exercises after one of them shot their mouth off saying that it was easy.  I made them do burpees.  Yes, the much hated, roll-your-eyes-at burpees, and when half of them didn’t do the 10 burpees correctly I made them do them all over again, plus 5… 15 burpees in addition to the 10 they just did.  The exercise I really drilled them on though was the plank.  I love, love, LOVE the plank!!!  I set my phone app timer to 1 minute and then pressed start after they assumed position.  A couple of them didn’t hold the correct form and I told them but after they continued to not keep proper form I waited till the minute was up to inform them of this.  “Do it again!” I insisted, and with that I ended up making them do it four more times with the fourth time me placing a couple of barbell weights on each of their backs.

“Who IS this girl?!” one of them mumbled to the next guy.

I was tempted to smirk but held back from giggling.  I love training hard and I really like pushing others to do so.  You’d be surprised at just how much more you can squeeze out of yourself at training if given a little extra push.  I know this but I wanted them to experience this so I pushed them hard tonight.

“Train hard or go home” is what I told them.
