As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Planning and Prep Work... Saturday, July 14

My weekends are always estrogen-high, female-packed, days and this week was no exception. My morning started off with Shopping for Abs – a bi-weekly event where I load up my van with the fabulous females of Flipside Fitness and head off together to a wickedly cheap, ultra delish veggie and fruit market. After my meetings in Seoul however, I returned to Ggum Guum and returned to being solely focused on Flipside Fitness. I had material-shopping and prep work to do for tomorrow’s Clothes Swap Party, and I also worked on future event planning.

I didn’t have my usual Saturday morning boxercise classes today on account that I had two meetings to attend out in Seoul. After Shopping for Abs I had to rush off to get my bus. I’m working an English camp and it starts on July 23rd – Snickers birthday (big boo to that). It’s a four-weeker with only one weekend off. Despite it being hosted in Cheonan, I’m required to sleep there and I’m apparently not even allowed to leave campus. When I was told I wasn’t even allowed to have visitors I thought I’d put up a fuss but I know Snickers. I guarantee you he’ll visit me. You could put a hundred foot tall wall around me and trust me, he’ll find his way to me!!! Other rules include no shorts allowed, no drinking whatsoever, and you’re not allowed to wear sandals. Some of the rules seem rather strict and rather off but I’ve worked a winter camp for this particular company last year and the camp was awesome. It was a 300+ kid-attended camp that was busting at the seams with crazy energy and I was probably bouncing off the walls just as much as the kids.

I don’t understand the no shorts and no sandals rule but as for the drinking rule, I don’t drink but I know at the winter camp it kind of drove many of the teachers to take up drinking! It was a very intense camp, requiring you to start at 9am and go straight till after 9pm. The winter camp was only four days and it left me exhausted, sticky and craving silence, but this summer camp is four WEEKS… yikes. I’ve already warned all the other female teachers that I’ll be packing a lot of food. If the food at this camp is anything similar to that of the winter camp than I’ll definitely be doing a lot of bedside eating in my room. As for packing two weeks of food… ya, Snickers is definitely going to have to visit me!!!

The winter camp was held at the SK Telecom basketball team “resort”… not sure what to call it; their professional basketball team resided there. Anyways, the facilities were amazing – indoor pools, indoor track and basketball court, indoor and outdoor soccer fields, a bowling alley, pool hall, ping-pong room, weight training gym, sauna rooms,… and that’s all that I can remember off the top of my head. It was a sports fanatic’s heaven and I was in love!!!

This summer camp is being held at a university campus here in Cheonan so I question the facilities. It is a water play camp though so I’m definitely down with daily pool time fun with these kiddies! I play on getting waterlogged on day one and staying waterlogged for the full four weeks!
