It's been a long grueling process to get to where I now am -- sitting at the corner of our juice bar that only a few months ago used to be smeared in poop and where a homeless man once slept. Blood, sweat and tears have all had their place here in the making of our boxing club as has a now emptied bank account and flexed dependency on our financial sponsor, but we're almost there. Relationships have been tried and tested, a couple have been broken while many others have been made, and many have been brought to whole new levels.
Today, while Snickers and some of our K-Crew slaved away on breaking down the front lockers, I got a chance to put up my affirmation quotes on the wall. My plan is to every so often add some new ones and use different font sizes too. I'd love for that wall to be just bombarded with positive quotes and affirmations, reminding our members and encouraging them to push hard through training. Right now, however, it's just an added expense that we simply can't afford but it's definitely a project I will continue. Same with my juice bar area. Right now I only have 5 quotes on it but the goal is to plaster the juice bar with clean eating tips and pointers. I'm all about the sensory overload -- a visual bombardment of encouragement and positivity.
I put up our motivational wall banner today too and stood back to read all the reasons to get fit the ladies of Flipside Fitness had submitted for me to include. I didn't include on the banner whose reason was what but I have it written down and I know most of who wrote what. As I stood there looking at their long list, I wondered if each of them remembered their reason and if they still hold themselves accountable for their health and fitness. We haven't had boxercise classes since late December and I know that the mentality and focus of many has changed which makes me all that more eager to get Hulk's up and running. Included on the list of reasons to get fit I also included my reason; I have two reasons actually.
To shock people when I tell them my age.
To inspire before I expire.
This Sunday marks Mother's Day so, in honor of my mother, Hulk's Boxing is hosting its soft-opening for members of Flipside Fitness, sponsors and close friends. It's our attempt at honoring my mother, thanking her for what she helped put into motion, by giving back to those who have really made Korea a home for me and who have given me purpose here.
