As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

From Major to Minor... Thursday, May 9

All the major renovations that we took upon ourselves and decided to slave over are officially done and boy does it ever feel Tony-the-Tiger GREAT!!! This however doesn’t mean that there still aren’t big things to be done, surely there will be always work to do, but now the few big things left are waiting for the professionals to come and do them.
  • Monkey bars to be set up.
  • Front locker doors to be replaced.
  • Change rooms to be built in the locker room.
  • Club symbol and name to be added to the inside of our boxing ring.

All that’s left for us to do is the detailing – the minor tasks of the major ones completed.

Today is May 9th and on Sunday, May 12th we will have our soft opening.  We've conquered our first goal of getting a place up and running and now it's on to making the next step goals.  In a year from now I want to have paid off our debt, an incredibly scary amount that I'm sure would drop many jaws if people knew the exact amount.  Originally I was going to do all the bookkeeping but with Snickers having to explain all his expenses to me, me then recording it, and then us trying to figure out the tax forms and other financial forms, we've decided to hire an accountant.

In addition to our full time assistant/trainer, we also have hired a part time trainer for our crossfit circuit classes, we have Secom Security working for us and now we have an accountant, bringing our total up to seven people that all have a hand in running Hulk's  -- Coach Young Bin, Coach Amy, Pyen Chi, Trainer Stark, Trainer Thor, WOW Motors President, Secom Security, and a business accountant.  Ok, so Pyen Chi may be considered an unnecessary worker but she's PURE BAIT when it comes to luring in strangers walking by our club.  She even has two middle school girls coming every day to visit her!!!  Countless people stop in the streets when they see her in the window and about 1/3rd of them go as far as coming into the club to pet her.  Once they're in, I or Snickers then approach them. So yes, Pyen Chi is very much a needed worker here.
