As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

From Sweet to Sour... Monday, July 29

With our Trainer Thor away on holidays and Snicker busy coaching the boxing, we pulled in another member into our crew -- Panty Boy Jr.  He'll be working with us this week as a part timer, from 8-9pm, while Snickers runs the Crossfit Circuit class.  We had a couple of first timers to our Crossfit Circuit class, one of which is a fellow foreign female friend of mine so that was pretty cool.  I always find it so motivating to watch our members challenge themselves and I am particularly fond of watching them when they do the tire jumps during Crossfit.  Snickers stacked both 150kg transport tires and then stood as tall as about my waist height.  Participants of the Crossfit class were then told they had to squat down and jump up with both feet.  There's always that wave of doubt present in the eyes of new participants, that continual battle of second guessing whether or not they can do it and then the fear of hurting themselves in their attempt.  The tire jumps are definitely a mind over matter thing so I joined the class to cheer some of them on.  "Can you jump?" I asked one of them.  Of course they could jump but this wasn't just any old jump.  "If you can jump than just jump, don't think about it.  You're thinking is the only thing that will stop you" I added and it's true.

Our relatively carefree Monday evening of training came to a sudden stop when we got word that a friend's mother had died yesterday.  Instantly Snickers jumped on the phone and started calling around.  Then, one-by-one many of his friends showed up at the club dressed head-to-toe in black -- black suits, black ties, black shoes.  And next thing I knew it, he was leaving the club early to attend to his friend.  Off to Chungju they left, leaving me to manage the club by myself and then go home by myself too.  I could have simply closed up the club early and gone with Snickers but I'm a bit sensitive about attending someone's mother's funeral not to mention many treat me differently because of having lost my own mother.
