"Well-behaved women rarely make history" said Marilyn Monroe but I don't think throwing a squat bar at someone was what she had in mind for misbehaved women. Regardless, today I was a misbehaved woman, on behalf of what I stood for and that being my club, and I am pretty sure I at least made Cheonan history. Perhaps I even made history among Seacom Security as I don't doubt that they've ever met a woman like me before. They rushed to our boxing club when they caught wind on our club security cameras of a particular situation that suddenly played out this early afternoon, leaving our floors messy and forcing us to lock the doors and open up a hour and a half late.
I got into a fight. It's no real secret. I had the swollen lip and a couple of scratches at the side of my face to sport today because of it. Oh and don't forget the now slightly bent and soon-to-be replaced squat rack bar and broken foot stool. "Am a part of the joys of doing business", as I say.
So what was this fight about, you ask, well I really can't get into the details of it and hence why we erased the security tapes and locked the doors. But if you have to know, I got into a fight standing up for what I believe in and what I believe in is working hard, working fair, and working according to the legal laws imposed on our club. I have way too much going for myself, my husband and our future to want to jeopardize my future and put my club at risk because someone wants us to do shaddy business with them. I may have jumped through loops and bent the rules before but everything changed once we became a legal business and the fact of the matter is no government or city worker is going to care two cents if I did something shaddy to help a friend. Shaddy is shaddy. Moreover, I don't think a true friend would ask me to jeopardize my business, my hard work, my happiness and my future if they really were a friend.
Perhaps we need to redefine what the word "friend" means.
I'm a pretty simple gal and I'm trying to become even simplier. Basically, my general thinking is if I have never invited you out for coffee or even joined you for coffee than I probably don't consider you my friend. That's not to say I don't value you in my life, it just means I don't care to be close to you for whatever reason. I'm one of those people who much rather have a couple of close friends than many random friends. I try to be very picky with just who I label as my friend here in Korea and, trust me, despite this particular person being a very close friend to Snickers, after today the closet he may get to ever becoming my friend may be the distance to which I can throw the squat rack bar at him.
For the rest of the day I was all distraught and frustrated about the early afternoon situation. It was Free Train Friday so I tried to forget about it and relax -- I didn't want him to kill the day for me. I love my Fridays at the club because I get to manage it by myself and let loose. I break out my choice of music, I crank up the tunes, I often treat a random member to a protein shake or make samples for members, and I always end the night with getting some members to spar and then do my own training.
Tonight's night ended with a surprise visit from one of my old sparring partners from UP Boxing -- Captain Jab. He's on military leave for about a week so he searched me out and walked in our club, causing me to start jumping and screaming. I was so happy to see him especially after the very drama-packed day I had just had. Up until him entering our club and greeting me with a punch to the shoulder and a hug, it was one of those "please-let-me-forget" days!!!
