Woke up with just enough time to head out for lunch with a friend of mine. His father had just come to Korea the other day and so I was happy to join them for lunch and hear about their plans for his visit.
The more and more I hear about friends who've only been here a year or a couple, having family visit them, I can't help but feel a bit sensitive about the subject. All the excuses in the world won't justify the fact that I've been here for nine years now and have yet to have any expected visitors. Sure, I had my cousin come the other month but it was a stopover visit while she waited for her connecting flight so I only had about 5 hours with her. My friend from college had her son visit me and he's really been my only visitor. He was traveling around Asia and had told me he wanted to stay a bit in Korea so he stayed with Snickers and I. It was an amazing time, having him stay in our house and letting us share Korea with him. I took him once on a street food tour of downtown Cheonan and it was hilarious -- yah for egg bread!!!
I've decided to hold off on visiting Canada until someone visits me and not because I've been here long enough for friends and family to visit but because now I have the boxing club. I want to share it with my friends and family back in Canada and I can't exactly just get up and close it for a few weeks while I visit Canada. The next time I visit Canada it will simply to pick up my father and get back on the plane with him. Snickers wants me to bring my father this October but we're still doing daily renovations and trying to save up for more things to buy for the club, like a new floor. Our floor in the club has proven to be the biggest pain in the you-know-where. God blessed me with a husband that believes he can take on the world and everything in between but this floor... oh gosh. We put it down when the floor was so dang cold so the glue took forever and a day to dry, and now that it's hot, double oh gosh. It's been bubbling up because of Korea's insane heat. If we cut it now to fix it we fear it going flat again and stretching out when it gets cold again, leaving massive gaps in the flooring. The plan is to replace it -- get the professionals to pull it all up and then lay down new flooring. It'd be a thicker flooring too.
Right now it's the flooring or my plane ticket to Canada... I'm pushing for the flooring; Snickers is pushing for my plane ticket.
Anyways, back to my original story here...
So it was nice to meet my friend's father -- my friend is also a member at my boxing club and that's how I originally met him so it's been really cool to get to know him outside of the club. The two -- my friend and his father -- are definitely characters and it was quite funny. Loved the tease about the chopsticks and having to use them to pick up the rice... hahaha. Nice. My father has yet to master using chopsticks but he has picked up a couple of words in Korean. He knows how to say "lake" in Korean, impressive?! Hahaha... super cute.
As for the rest of my day, I also went out for coffee with another friend who I also train -- super great guy. He's been nicknamed the Cheonan Teddy Bear -- CT-Bear for short -- by a couple of my Korean friends and it's so appropriate for who he is. With Snickers off for the weekend, scuba diving with friends, I definitely spoiled myself today with not only lunch out but also coffee out. I usually only treat myself to coffee out once a week actually as it's become a luxury in my life. Oh, and I also bought myself a birthday present... yup. I splurged and bought myself a new pair of Adidas training pants that hug my body like NONE other... woozers. I figured if I was going to buy an overpriced item then I may as well hit too birds with one stone -- a birthday present that's also a must need for work (work uniform). My birthday is this Tuesday, Snickers and I are going camping for it on Monday, but I know Snickers well enough to know he won't be buying me a birthday present. I don't think he's ever bought me a birthday present actually. He tends to buy random surprise gifts every so often but I wish he'd jump on in on the holiday celebrations because I try to make them a big deal for him even though I know he doesn't really care about them. He once said "but everyday is special" and I bounced back by saying "then everyday you should buy me a gift". He didn't like my joke.. but I wasn't really joking.
After lunch, coffee and birthday present shopping, I headed back home to clean. I had anticipated all week being able to clean my house. I'm not a clean freak but I hate coming home to a dirty house, or a dirty club for that matter. I may have three doggies in my house but I don't want to look like I live in THEIR home. I don't want my house to look like three dogs live here either so I take great pride in trying to keep it presentable. Today I cleaned our house -- Mi Gung -- from top to bottom and I was such a geek in that I was so proud of it. It felt so good to flop down on the couch after over two hours of cleaning and just enjoy knowing that it's ALL clean.
I didn't really have much energy after cleaning, so I watched a movies with my beauties and then revamped my training for my own personal training.
