Today's Free Train Friday was more like a Female Train Friday, with the female Hulkies training outnumbering the males 6:1. Love, love, LOVE the fact that so many fun females are training at Hulk's. It was like an overdose of estrogen and giggles today at training. One of my female Hulkies and I had a great in depth talk today about her training. She's so incredibly hardcore and eager to change, so much so that today she noted she's exhausted. "I have no push today Amy", she told me and with that I told her to stop training and come join me on the couch. Training hard is all about making a lifestyle of it, as is eating right. The trend I've seen with our Korean members is that they'll come every single day we're open to train. Then, a month later, they'll note they need a break from training because they're simply too exhausted and sure, of course they are. The key is to create a healthy lifestyle that you can sustain and maintain. Training everyday may last a month but, for the most average person, it's not going to last a lifetime. Training three times a week is so much better than training everyday when you look at the long term and that's the truth.
My annoyance with members bringing "dirty food" to the club was pleasantly suppressed when a new member brought me a very high end quality bottled milk and yogurt. They also gave me some packaged cheese. It was surely a HUGE change from the continual stream of junk food that has been finding it's way to Hulk's. A member actually listening to my advice and trying to pick healthier choices or just a fluke gift?!
Tomorrow marks my fourth year wedding anniversary and I didn't buy a gift or prepare anything for Snickers. After four years together, I know him too well to know not to get my hopes up and expect a gift. He doesn't do wedding anniversary gifts just like he doesn't do Christmas, Valentine's Day or Birthday gifts. It's ok but it doesn't mean my friends don't....!!! It used to make me really upset but, honestly, I'm rather over it. It is what it is. We're not exactly in the position to be spending extra money anyways, considering both our preoccupation with paying off Hulk's asap.

Received another wedding anniversary, a gift for two, the possibility of both Snickers and I going to Japan to fight. My promoter contacted me late tonight, around 1am, wanting to talk to me about getting Snickers to fight in Japan in early May and noting the possibility for another fight in Fukuoka for me later this year. I had noted last year that 2013 was the year of our boxing club but that 2014 would be the year of our boxing careers. We're already into month one of this year and just today we made a drastic decision to really change things up. I won't go into the details of it because I am sure many would just love to jump at the chance to destroy the good intentions of it, but I will say this, Snickers is off learning to cook and both of us have gone into a kind of training camp mode, with distractions being limited and the focus on training being amplified. We are each others distraction, as are our friends and family. Our "training camp" will last a month, maybe longer, so on Sunday to officially kick it off, we'll be having weigh-in at Hulk's.
And talking of this Sunday, we'll be hosting a rather butt-kicking sparring event between one of our top amateur boxers and a professional fighter who will be coming into town specifically to spar. We haven't exactly announced the event to other members but it's going to be a true test as to whether we should pursue taking this particular amateur to the pro level and have him fight for his pro card. And as for who this particular fighter is, it is none other than Kato, the youngest son of our sponsor WOW. I think he's going to do awesome. He's got such a long reach, is very fast and has been training like a machine ever since he walked in our club doors over seven months ago. Turning our sponsor's son into a pro boxer would be absolutely amazing, even more so because he is our sponsor's son. I tell ya, Snickers and I have their whole family eating, sleeping and breathing boxing. Yet another one of the zillion-billion reasons why we are so incredibly blessed to have crossed paths with WOW President. He's brought a lot of wow into our life and I hope the feeling is mutual. Love the WOW family!!!
