That embarrassing moment when some Korean Hulkies ask me to recommend a handful of English-speaking foreigners to tutor them and I can only come up with a few names I'm confident about... ya, had that moment yesterday and it dragged out via text messages and phone calls today. Am I that out of the loop that I don't know so many foreigners to recommend or is it something else?! I don't know many foreigners, that must be it. The increase in Korean members has brought more Koreans wanting to learn English. However, the supply of foreign teachers does NOT meet the demand at Hulk's so I have resorted to having to branch out to our Facebook group members. Snickers says I should just take on the responsibility of tutoring some of them but I am so not interested in doing so. We have various members who do train specifically with only me because they do want that foreign interaction and want to improve their English. However there has been a huge influx in their numbers and I'm now feeling a bit pressured to find them good tutors because of who they are and/or who they are connected to, like the son of a potential sponsor.
Someone paid their club membership by giving me their car, seriously. So now I am the owner of four embarrassingly small tires wrapped in tinfoil, or so it feels that's what it is. Ungrateful? No, but a fool in accepting it, I think yes! I plan on selling it because I don't trust it enough to dare drive it.
Australia is an official no-go but I still can't really talk about it.
This week has been a week of secrets, apparently. We've got Australia, the "disappearance" of Foxy Brown, hush-hush dealings with finding tutors, and tonight we added another with the arrival of a certain someone at Hulk's. And to think, it's ONLY Thursday. Wonder what Friday and the weekend will hold.
We may have officially added another professional champion boxer to our Hulk roster when yet another former teammate from UP walked into our club, ready and wanting to train. Yesterday he apparently had a big "breakup fight", as he called it, with Junior Mint. You know Junior Mint as my former coach but he also might very well become this particular boxer's former coach too. I'm nervous for him. I'm more than happy to have him training with us but considering he's got a very big boxing bout coming up in another country, I am nervous for him. The demands on him right now, physically with training and mentally with it being in another country -- a country that is never nice to it's visiting boxers -- is a lot and I don't know if he can handle the mental strain of having to sort it out in less than a month. He's a young kid and not particularly mature, based on how I've seen him handle situations before with Junior Mint. Regardless, he's now got an official locker at Hulk's and tonight we kicked off his training with some sparring with Snickers. We also did padwork with him and then after his sandbag work we put him through a short crossfit circuit with the ropes.
