As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

First Day of the Happiness Challenge... Friday, March 28

I just started this 100 days of happiness challenge where everyday I have to post a picture on Facebook of what happiness was for me that day.  They, though I must note here I don't really know who "they" are, claim something like 70% of participants can't stay happy for 100 days.  I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing, it's just life.  Life is full of ups and downs.  Having said this, I seriously don't believe any of the successful 30% were 100% happy, that is unless they were high on something or in some kind of veg/coma state.  I have actually met an always happy person but they are very rare and I've never ended a conversation without wanting to honestly kick them in the head, just to see if they can remain annoyingly happy or will show a much suppressed real side.  I don't trust people who can't admit they're having a bad day or don't like something -- that's not natural.

Having said this, today was my first day of my 100 days of happiness challenge and, consequently, I don't want to talk about the following that happened today...
  • I don't want to talk about the fact Pacquiao liked my pancake today and I was forced to either eat it or miss out on breakfast because of the time.
  • I don't want to talk about the fact my iHerb order has been held captive in the second floor coffee shop because he's randomly decided to not open his cafe this week.
  • I don't want to talk about the fact that Pyen Chi received a complaint from a parent.
  • I don't want to talk about how I tasted Nutella for the first time and it left me feeling sick -- too sweet!
  • I don't want to talk about how it was Free Train Friday but I trained someone anyways and got punched in the face when they mistook what I called out.
  • I don't want to talk about how my FIL, KGere, kept on calling and calling me, asking me when Snickers is returning.
  • I don't want to talk about how Snickers is STILL not back in Korea and how I anticipated him surprising me at the club the entire day.
  • And I surely don't want to talk about how in a heightened moment of frustration and disappointment I cried in front of some members.  I didn't cry much, it was really only a couple of tears mixed with one super red bunny nose and bloodshot eyes, but I did cry.

Instead, I want to talk about the whole war I called yesterday -- Hulk's against the motorcycle-bashing Pesky Parker. You know, the Pesky Parker who hit over one of my Hulkie's motorcycles last night. I headed into work today shortly after 12:30pm, all ready to play detective and figure out who had hit the motorcycle. I dropped off my stuff at Hulk's and then went into each and every neighbouring shop to talk to their manager and employees. I was banking on the photo shop that's located directly across from our parking lot to have some key security camera footage but holy epic fail on that. Apparently their so-called "security" involves just sticking up ATD security stickers, advertising that they have security cameras when in fact they really don't. Was quite surprised to hear that a few others had followed in the same footsteps -- foolish shop owners!!! The new corner PC store guy was incredibly helpful and after about 30 minutes of watching footage he said he'd continue to watch it and then get back to me if he noted anything. He also agreed to let me have my member come and watch it too -- awesome shop owner!!! I then had to phone the car owner whom had parked facing our lot last night; the car had a blackbox.

By the time 2pm had come around, I had talked to about 20 people, both in person and on the phone. Then, just as I was opening the club, the Corner Godfather's friend approached me. He's a noisy man who is always hanging around our corner. There's a few of them actually and as strange as I regard them as being, they are the eyes and ears of this area. They see all, hear all. Turns out this particular one heard the loud crashing sound of the motorcycle hitting the ground then took it upon himself to take down the license plate of the driver. One call was all it took -- I called someone and then they called someone else. Now I know the name, address and phone number of the driver. The new Hulkie who owns the motorcycle came in today, after I texted him the good news, to thank me. There were a lot of smiles, laughs and even some high fives.
