Arriving to Hulk's and realizing that I had given the cleaning kid the wrong Windex bottle to clean the mirrors with so they were coated with a hazzy slim was just 'perfect'. But that wasn't the only rotten thing that happened today and it surely wasn't the actual start to what became a rough day, gosh no. The brutal day started long before me arriving at Hulk's and it went long into the day... and the evening... and even until I closed my eyes long after the night was actually over.
"It's such a Monday for you" a friend noted to me when I told him about my day. I laughed but honestly my Mondays are pretty good. Now that I have the full weekend off, I actually look forward to my Mondays. The two-day weekend is a bit too long for my liking and I really only need one day off but look how that's been for me -- I go in on my days off.
The day started off on a brutal note, of which I was completely clueless about late afternoon. You see, today Snickers headed off to Incheon Airport for his work trip and, in typical Snickers fashion, he left all his packing and prep work till last minute. So when he woke me up early in the morning and said "see you later", I didn't know his "see you later" meant as in Friday. I thought it strange that he stood there starring at me, wanting me to react, but I was pretty much in zombie mode. He had stayed up all night and consequently I basically had too. I was clocking in only a couple of hours when he woke me up around 9am so I tossed the blanket over my head and went back to sleep.
Thinking that Snickers would be returning and thus would wake me up, I slept in. I woke up around 12:30pm and had about an hour and a half to do a trillion zillion things to do before work. By the time I got a chance to talk to Snickers he was well on his way to Incheon. No proper kiss goodbye. I was quite upset about that too, he's my Baby Boy.
Snickers' procrastination with preparing for his trip lead him to ask his mom to wash his clothes. Please, don't even ask me how not impressed I am with that. I'm sure she must have rolled her eyes and assumed I was to blame. Yet another point against me, nice.
In my haste to walk Pyen Chi before work, I ran out the door with her and without her collared leash. She's usually good without a leash but today there was a random cat and she bolted. She totally bolted so I had to bolt too. That silly dang cat had quite the legs on him and boy did it run far. It ran, Pyen Chi ran, and I ran too.
I wore wet training pants to work because I hadn't waken up in time to dry them on the heated floor and a hair dryer only worked to dry the crotch part in time. Way to keep it classy.
Got into a rather bizarre argument with a member who just joined the other day. She wanted to quit Hulk's and insisted I refund her in cash. Her mother used her bank card and it takes 2-5 business days for the cash to be transferred from the credit card company so I haven't actually received the funds yet. She was quite persistent that I give her money right there on the spot and I refused to. I was actually very polite about it and then it dawned on me -- she wanted to get the cash back so she could spend it. One call to her mother for her card number and the problem was solved. No refund but yes training. I really don't want to train anyone who doesn't actually want to work out, there's really no point if there's no push or effort being put in with the time, however I also don't want to be conned into some little high school kid's scheme for fast cash.
Police parked in our front parking spot which automatically started a rippling effect. First it was the Corner Chicken Godfather who came into the club to see if everything was ok, next it was the Chinese restaurant owner. A couple of friends passed by the club and at the sight of the police van text messages started and members cautiously walked into Hulk's. Everyone wanted to know why the police and one sarcastically asked me if I had "finally" hit one of the Pesky Parkers. No, the police weren't here for me or for anything that went down. They were here for lunch at a neighbouring restaurant but with no parking spots around, they simply parked in front of our club.
With Snickers on a plane and me managing the club by myself until our temporary help arrived, I was very busy. I juggled training all members present, cleaning those dang mirrors (which I should note are still NOT properly cleaned), and greeting visitors. It was only a few of hours after opening, at 5pm, that help arrived -- my former teammate the Heavy Hitter. Two hours later another former teammate arrived to help -- Panty Boy Jr. For the most part I put them in charge of doing padwork with all our boxers but several of our younger boxers insisted I train them; they were a bit nervous and shy at the notion of training with these two big guys. It was great to have them helping me though, I really appreciated it and I found great amusement in it. Including both Snickers and I, we have 5 UP Boxing Club members working at Hulk's. And even though two of them are just temporary workers this week, they both train at our club and I think one of them may very well sign with us.
I almost got hit by a pizza delivery scooter while walking home, that would have been a 'super fabulous' end to the day. I've been walking/jogging to and from work these days and tonight some random delivery scooter decided to fly by me right as I was about to turn down a street. I should note here that I was on the sidewalk and so was the scooter. Welcome to Korea, where the sidewalks are just 'sidepaths' for scooters and it's accepted. Sometimes I seriously wonder why I don't see accidents everyday. There's no way stuff like this would go down in Canada.
In between missing out on my goodbye kiss and almost being taken out by a scooter, there were other 'interesting things' and frustrations that went down so it felt so good to come home and get ready for bed. That's not to say here though that more 'interesting things' didn't go down, gosh no. My new neighbours behind me freaked the heck of me tonight when I went to go hang my laundry up in the veranda, only to turn and see them smoking and watching me. Pyen Chi jumped in the bed to join me and just about knocked the wind out of me when she landed right on top of me. She's 47kgs, that's not exactly a small child landing on you, that's an adult here in Korea!
Around 3am, with my 3 four-legged beauties finally zonked out and fast asleep on my bed, I realized that the day was over. It was an exhausting day, especially because Snickers wasn't here to help carry half of the responsibilities that come with running the club. Tomorrow will be a new day and hopefully not a rough one like today. And if tomorrow is another exhausting day or a bad day, that's ok. My success rate of getting through such days has been 100% so I just have to suck it up, carry on and work my way through it.
