As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

No Rest for the Wicked... Saturday, May 24

"I hope people don't just drop by randomly now that I live here", said the girl who, while sipping on her morning coffee and sporting leggings, a tank top and some crazy bedhead, opened the club doors to let in a complete stranger.

For the record, leggings are not pants which only added a comic splash to today's spontaneous business meeting. And as for this particular stranger, he's a former fighter, an older man who is looking to get back into training. He's 78 and his age alone was the highlight of my morning (and by "my morning" I mean my 2pm). I was almost tempted to just tell him he could train for free when he asked if we'd give him a bit of a discount. A man of 78 training, oh now that's inspirational. I would pay him to come train if he'd just let me sit and watch him, seriously. And here I was, giving myself props for being 33 and one of our oldest members who trains hard. But this man, what a humble meeting it was. It was as humbling as it was just completely inspiring. Men like him are a rare breed but I hope to be like him when I get his age. Love people like him, those who don't let their age stop them from what they want to do.

And speaking of inspiration and breaking the age stereotypes....

Keela Byrd Byars, a 58 year old American heavyweight boxer won by unanimous decision in 4-rounder boxing bout last night. And if that wasn't awesome enough, a 51 year old female fighting, let this blow your mind -- it was her debut fight, as in it was her FIRST pro fight.  It was the START of her boxing career!!! So my question here now is, what's that excuse you gave me about your age again??? Oh ya, that's right, this 51 year old fighter who is just now starting her boxing career beat it to a pulp along with her opponent, sweet.

"I'm too tired to work anymore, I want to go home" said the same sarcastic girl, not realizing that today was actually her day off and here is her new home.

Things I did today at Hulk's:
  • renovated the juice bar
  • organized most of the stuff in the storage room
  • purchased a cabinet for the girls private shower room
  • gave a tour of the club to a few random visitors
  • bought a rocking lounge chair for my reading nook
  • finished setting up the back reading nook
  • washed and hung all the club member towels
  • cleaned the club floor
  • contacted our Pakistan supplier regarding our order
  • working on the club books
  • updated our club members' goals
  • printed the new member photos for the profile pages
  • finished organizing our new bedroom
  • took out all the renovation trash
  • finished setting up the new office
  • washed some of the club mirrors
  • opened the club twice for Free Train

"Just because I'm at work doesn't mean I have to always work... right?!" said the very same girl from above who just signed up a new member and agreed to train him right there and then.

Today was my day off but not really.  It was more of an on day than an off day.  And even though I might have slept in till 1pm and didn't get out of bed till an hour later, I worked on stuff at Hulk's till about midnight. I would have continued too but I have my Sunday morning breakfast club to attend tomorrow, 9am, and I still hadn't trained despite opening it twice for our Hulkies.  I was determined to train so when midnight came around and I still was working on the club books, I stopped and geared up for training.

Started boxing at 12:10am and finished around 1:30am.
Showered, ate and then read in my reading nook till about 3am when I then called my father in Canada.
Headed to bed at 4:30am.
