As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Boxing and the "Interesting" Aspects of Rankings

Received some extra pictures today from my fight in Thailand so I thought I'd share them with you.
When they announced the winner, me, I was more than eager to lift my hand.
I proudly and so strongly raised me hand as high and as straight as I could.
I had won and the first thing I did was look down at the "Hulk's Boxing" label printed on my uniform.
I wanted so desparately to be right there, at Hulk's, right at that exact moment.
This month's updated WIBA rankings were officially published.
After two years of being out of the ring, I'm back and my 5th round KO put me 56th in the Women's International Boxing Association rankings, sweet.  Notice the country I'm "from".  It's a bittersweet label because I am more than proud to fight as a Korean boxer, it is my home, but I still feel I get treated as a visiting boxer.

Out of curiosity, I checked out the weight class below me, noted who holds the current women's world championship title, and then I looked her up on Boxing Rec, to see the details of her stats... wow.
Let's try a little test here.  Look at the above stats for this particular boxer and tell me you're not impressed.  Now let's see who among you are boxer fans and who are boxing fans.  Click HERE to see her fight details and pay attention to the 3rd column (W-L-D) as it tells you how many fights this particular opponent won, lost and ended in a draw.

Samson Tor Baumas has had 36 fights.  Out of her 36 fights, 20 of them were with fighters fighting their debut fight. "Debut" means it was that fighter's FIRST EVER professional fight, so beyond her debut fight being matched with an opponent that also was having their debut fight, that means NINETEEN of her fights were with first time fighters.  Another handful or so of her other fights consisted of match-ups with fighters who lacked fight experience.  Now this is not to say she is not a good boxer, she has fought one particular boxer whom I very much so respect and personally know is incredibly talented, but you see why and where others seriously question what's really going on here.

So which are you, a boxer fan or boxing fan? Still impressed and still trust the stats?
This IS the female mini flyweight world champion.

...and now you know a bit more of the insight I learned in Thailand.
Ironically enough, this particular boxer is from Thailand, how very appropriate.
