As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Back to Where I Grew Up... Sunday, October 25

I traveled out to Whitby today; it's my hometown where I grew up.  Coming back to Whitby is always strange for me because I loved it growing up but couldn't wait to leave it once my university days approached.  Unlike my brothers who moved back after college and university, I never came back.  I kept my bags packed and headed off to Korea.

Now I'm back, back in Canada that is, but not back to stay in Whitby.

Sleeping in the house where I grew up means restless nights because the halls that used to be noisy with the chatter of my parents and the stomping of my brothers are now silent.  Our three cats we had when I was growing up have since passed and now one attitude-filed cat, Samantha, resides but sticks to hiding in the basement.

I had a couple of people to see in Whitby so I decided to come and stay the night. Tonight I met up with the author of the comic book that's being written about me.  The author is a friend of mine from back in my elementary school days so it's very cool to be working on him with this let alone a huge honour for him to be focusing a book on me.  It still blows my mind when I think of it actually.  Tonight we sat down and arranged a schedule together.  On Sunday, November 8th he and two others will be heading off to Toronto to follow me around, to see the places that occupy the main chunks of my time (like my boxing club and weight training gym), to meet some of the key people in my boxing career, and to take pictures and audio files of everything.

I returned from my author meeting to my parents' house shortly after 10pm but in my hometown it may of well been 3am.  The streets were completely empty and the house was super quiet.  Samantha the saucy cat hissed as me and then I made my way up the old stairs to my bedroom, a room that I once loved and had jam-packed with my stuff but now sits cold and relatively empty in comparison.  I tried to call it an early night and get a good night sleep but woke up several times, totally confused at where I was and uncomfortable with just how quiet the house was.
