Headed downtown to Adelaide Club for some live amateur boxing tonight.
Ran into some familiar faces, like Donovan Boucher --former welter weight champ.
I think we've become fans of each other and almost every boxing event I go
to I end up running into him. Super great guy.
Some more familiar faces -- you know my notoriously awesome sparring partner from Cabbagetown Boxing, me, current heavy weight champ (Dillon Carman), Donovan the former welter weight champ, and kickboxing pro star Dexter Delves.
Tonight's amateur event was being hosted by Dexter.
And who should show up but one of my most favourite boxers of all time, my former Canadian coach and Olympian silver medalist -- Egerton Marcus!!!
Best fight of the night for me was the third fight. It was a match up between two female fighters of different experience but of equal heart. I swear the one fighter started the fight off as if she were a cannon. The ref yelled "box" and she came racing out of her corner, straight to her opponent. It was an intense fight.
I didn't stay for all the fights because they had started so late and by 10pm they were only on fight five of nine. This picture was from the last fight I watched. It ended with the ref stopping it in the third round after the one boxer knocked his opponent down with a clean straight cross jab. His opponent got up but returned to the fight scared so the ref called it. Definitely an intense fight!
