As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Something is Wrong... Saturday, January 29

I'm writing this entry for Saturday today, Sunday, because Saturday was pretty nonexistent for me.

Correction, I was pretty nonexistent.

I really have no recollective of what I did yesterday beyond going to a family lunch and the gym.  After that, after the lunch and gym everything else is a blur.

Headed out to Milton for a birthday party with family and then I went to the gym.

At training, while putting on my boxing boots, a girl walked into the area where I was gearing up and upon her and I both recognizing each other I jumped up and we both started yelling.  I grabbed her, gave her a huge smile and a big hug.  She was one of the girls I occasionally did boxing with at the girls-only gym downtown.  She has since stopped going there and apparently now goes to my gym, very cool. She noted that the place changed a lot when I left, the vibe and energy was different, and she noted it was so good to see me.  While we chatted, she went over to the heavy bag and throw some punches.  It was great to see how hyper she was and how interested in boxing she still is.  I left that conversation feeling so reassured that the Second Dream I'm going to launch is going to be big.  I think it's going to be bigger than I expect actually.  Those who know about it keep on asking me when is it going to open and where it's going to be located.  I have a few locations in mind and a general idea when I'm going to start the physical building of it but it's still very much in the paper and pen business proposal write-up stage.

I was sure that upon arriving back home, after running into a former client of mine, that I'd be pumped and ready to work countlesss hours on my business proposal but it didn't go down as such.

Something is definitely off at my apartment.  It is the Twilight Zone.

My head got dizzy, I felt nauseous, and my eyes got super blurry.  I thought a nice hot bath would help so I started a bath, brought in a night table for my iPad and candles, and waited for the bathtub to fill up.  Twenty minutes into the bath and I was fading out, so I got out.  Dried myself off, sat down to work on my business proposal and then that's where things started to continue to get worse.

I couldn't focus.

I got so far as to set up a work station among my boxes and packed stuff, and sit down to type some things but focusing to write a full sentence was like pulling teeth, painful and I just couldn't make a coherent sentence.

Taking a picture to edit and posting on my Instagram was as far as I got for writing anything tonight.  I couldn't focus, I couldn't think... I couldn't even really see.

The struggle was real.

Not trying to scare you, but have you considered that the issue might be neurological? Might be worth seeing a doctor and having a scan done.

++ Carbon monoxide detectors are only about 20 bucks - it's 100% worth the investment even if you're leaving soon - better to check in advance to make sure the next person doesn't get sick either, right?

Hi Alex,
I thought about that but not too long ago I did go through an entire body check for my boxing. I'm talking about head scans, full body scans, blood tests, urine tests, eye exam, hearing checks... I did pretty much every test under the sun and everything came back as me being super healthy.
I never did get a carbon monoxide detector, good call though thanks, and instead voiced my concern to the rental office as well as the workers in my building. Every once in a while I drive by to see if anyone has moved in and am almost tempted to leave a note there just in case someone does live there.
