As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

I'm Me Because of Her... Monday, May 21

It was a bit of an emotional day for me but it was one of those sad-happy days.

I was walking to the boxing club for training when a song came on that reminded me of my mom.  It's her birthday and I woke up with her on my mind.  I arrived with her in my thoughts so when that same song that had played earlier came blasting on the speakers at the boxing club, I was relieved I was done my training.  I sat there and enjoyed the song but got a bit choked up so I went into the back, the girls changeroom.

I am a strong woman because a strong woman raised me.

I only own one necklace, it was actually a gift I got made for my mom and gave to her many years ago. It reads her name in Korean and I've been wearing it ever since I stumbled across it after her passing.

Today I celebrated her birthday with a special dinner out.  It was another birthday of hers without her actually here. It never gets easier though but what a blessing it is to have had someone so special to miss so much.

Happy birthday mom. You are loved and you are missed every day. Thank you for all the bold, badass boss babe genes you passed on to me. I hope I'm doing you proud.
