As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Save Angkas... Tuesday, January 22

Angkas, a taxi on two wheels.  A motorcycle or scooter that has an app where you put your pick up point and then put in your drop off point.  It's super easy.  When you request a driver, you then get appointed one and then the driver texts you back, saying they're on their why or commenting that they'll be there in a couple of minutes.

With the recent government issues regarding Angkas though, Angkas drivers no longer arrive and announce that they're Angkas.  They don't even bring along their Angkas helmet either.  Instead, they ask you if you're so-and-so (your name listed on the app) and then give you an unmarked helmet.

Angkas is half the price of Grab and gets you there in 1/3rd the time as Grab.

It's a win-win for the rider and, for the driver, it's also a win-win for them.  They don't have the hassle of traffic so their riders never sit there complaining about the traffic and, if they choose to, they don't even have to talk to their rider either because they are on a motorcycle.  I find most Angkas drivers talk to me though and our conversations tend to focus on how long I've been here in the Philippines, what I do, and what Tagalog I've picked up.

I love Angkas, I admit it.  It makes my crazy entrepreneur life with clients in and out of town and my life as an athlete with training all over the place with boxing in Poblacion and rugby in McKinley possible.

I simply can't afford the cost of Grab nor the wasted time associated with Grab (traffic).

Angkas, I take an average of 2 a day, six sometimes seven days a week, and today I took five.

Angkas #1 -- from my PT client #2 for the day to an out of town business errand/meeting.
Angkas #2 -- from my business meeting to PT client #3.
Angkas #3 -- from PT client #3 to boxing.
Angkas #4 -- from boxing to another business errand.
Angkas #5 -- from my business errand to my home in the next city.

Five Angkas' and the total cost of all them equaled about 2 rides with Grab.  That's crazy awesome.
