As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Faith in Humanity... Monday, May 27

No sparring on account of Coach Marcelo having to rush his sister to emergency.  She has an issue with her kidney and is now requiring surgery.  That's rough.  What's even rougher though is I know just how little Coach Marcelo makes.  I think his sister has a husband who works but, even so, surgery is expensive when you make so little.

Where there's a will there's a way and my faith in humanity is there.

I was approached at the boxing club by a friend requesting for a donation for Coach Marcelo's sister's surgery.  Of course I will gladly donate, just not too sure on how I can give though.  Funds are definitely running super low with everything I have being put into the clubhouse.  I spend the bare minimum on anything beyond the clubhouse and my business and, consequently, I don't really have a paycheck.  If I have money, it goes into paying for this or that for the clubhouse.

As long as I have my coffee I'm happy.

Sounds funny to say that but it's true.

I'm blessed to be sponsored by the Six Pack Chef, a food delivery company here in the Philippines that sends me my meals daily.  They're both super nutrious and ultra healthy, so I'm beyond blessed with them.  If they didn't send me food, honestly, I wouldn't be able to afford food on the daily as such.  I'm also blessed to be sponsored by Klean Athlete.  They supply me with supplements that mean I can maintain the crazy active lifestyle I have, juggling all my coaching and my training -- boxing, rugby and running.

I'm blessed to be sponsored because I'm not supported by any family here and sometimes it's really just me and my grind.  So, with regards to Marcelo, I know people will step up and help him because I know how much random people associated with me and even strangers have not only helped me with sponsoring me but also supporting my Lil' Sistas.  I've been taking up donations for the two baby mamas and their newborns and it's been honestly so touching who has reached out to help support them.  Someone I don't even know drove to my clubhouse here to give a donation for them.  She had bought four bottles of baby wash and I was so touched by her generosity I honestly could have cried.

There are good people out there.  There are some really, really, REALLY good people and I'd like to believe that people are naturally good.  Many people want to help out but many people just don't know where or how their help is needed.  If you give them a reason to help, if you ask, you'd be surprised at just how many people will answer your honest need.  I think this is exactly what will happen with Coach Marcelo.  If his sister doesn't get this surgery she could die.  That's the honest truth.  But I believe those in the boxing club will come together and help.
