As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Day One of Many... Monday, June 3

Day One of the Empowered Clubhouse soft opening and the registration is pretty much maxed out.

Many people jumped in on getting me to train them and signed up but most signed up for only once a week sessions.  Honestly, I wish they'd at least commit to twice a week because exercising once a week will hardly make a dent if you're looking to get healthier and lose weight.  Not everyone is looking to lose weight, of course, but once a week means your progression for learning the art of boxing is going to be much slower also.

I suspect some of my 1x a week fighters will upgrade to 2x a month later.

I hope if they're only training with me and not doing anything other physical activity that they do add another day.  It's more rewarding for both them and me if they commit to one more day.  I want those who want to lose weight to lose weight, those who want to do solely learn boxing to learn boxing, those who want to train with me for the enjoyment of being active to have fun and be encouraged to be more active.

I want them to succeed.

Having said this, I'm hesitant as to whether or not I should take on more one-to-one clients because if half of those who have only one session with me now upgrade later to 2x a week, I might have a problem with my schedule.

Too many fighters, too many hours coaching.... oh, what a blessed problem, right?!  Right.

I had my first new fighter today and she impressed me with her don't-give-up attitude and real willingness to give everything I threw at her her best try and honest effort.  She's super new to boxing and I love that.  I really do love coaching the "green boxers", those new to the sport.  They're just a clean slat to teach, it makes me go back to basics and it is so refreshing for me to introduce them to boxing.

Day 1 done, Day 2 tomorrow and it starts with a 6am new fighter and 3 others to coach.  I love it.
