And to think, when I was a kid I hated needles and today, now that I'm an adult, here I am getting someone to come in to litter my back with an overdose of noodles. How's that for a flip in the situation, irony.
Today a physical therapist came to Empowered to do dry needling, cupping and rolling on my back.
We connected on social media, on Instagram actually. She's a young Filipina who reached out to me once regarding an injury that I had but trained through. I'm not really for taking time off training to nurse an injury partly because I'm so stubborn, partly because I also coach and that's my business so I can't, and partly because I really try hard to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle. So instead of time off training, I simply adapt my training. This particular girl, this physical therapist, has been good with giving me tips and pointers and she's been super supportive with what I'm doing with Empowered and the Lil' Sistas Project. So when she said she does house calls and could come out to me in Taguig, I was all game.
That's what went down this afternoon.
I'm still not totally back to normal since Saturday's championship rugby match.
Apparently my normal is abnormal as I found out when the physical therapist put the needles into my back and several of them broke. Actually, I broke FOUR needles. Kind of crazy. The whole session took a little over an hour and left me feeling super loose in the back; no more stiffness. I know I'll be walking around for the next week with red circles on my back because of the cupping but I also know I'll be walking around a lot more comfortable too so that totally justified it.
