As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Ready, set...

FIGHT!!!

I was ticked, can you tell?

So I went back in the ring and gave her a good bloody nose!

Hi Amy,
I like the pictures of you in action and it shows your determination. I'm glad you like boxing. It still is hard for some people I know to understand why I like to spar and compete in boxing. I guess until it is more accepted (which it is I think) that many people think it’s just a barbaric sport.
I’m going to spar Shawn’s younger sister at the next workout so that should be interesting and challenging. She’s younger than her so I’m hoping my experience will counter any skills or punches she has. She has a bit of karate training but that’s different than boxing. I’m sort of nervous but I’ll just do my best you know?
I’ve been practicing that thing you said about throwing a punch with a weight attached. It seems to help.

Hi Beth,
Thanks girl!
So how did your sparring with Shawn's younger sister go? Did you pick up any great tips? Hope it went well. A great useful tip is to get someone to video tape your sparring matches. Later you'll be able to watch it again, pick at it, and be able to see where you can improve and where your strengths are. Usually when you're sparring, you're not thinking quite like you would be when you're doing pad work or working on the heavy bag, so it's good to be able to look at the video to reflect and learn.
