As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Me sporting my butt-kicking face... hahaha.

I prize myself on being one tough cookie, but to tell you the truth, when you've got two champion boxers as team mates -- one of which is my husband, the other being a close friend -- it's easy to stir up trouble cause I know they have my back.

You all know my husband (on the left here) and that's is Black Skinny on the right. This Saturday Black Skinny will be taking on and taking down his opponent in a title match. It's going to be good!!!

Tune into MBC ESPN Sports around 3pm this Saturday.

Hey Amy,
I like this picture of you. I like those gloves you have on. Are they for the punching bag? This shows how you are both very attractive and deadly also which I can relate to. It’s a tough sport of course but more women are into it for fitness and competition. I think your hair looks great streaked the way it is.
I wish you had a regular girl to spar with. Like you said I am lucky I have a good partner Shauna to learn from. We sparred yesterday outside in back because it finally was nice enough and for something different. One of her friends taped our session. Shauna told me I have to be more a boxer than a puncher and think more. She uses this procedure she calls a three pack which is basically a left, right, left jab and it’s either to the head or body or a combination. Needless to say you have to be aware of it. I didn’t do bad in the first round but she got to me and I was wobbly to say the least the rest of the way. I ended up with a swollen lip and it still hurts a bit today but it is just part of the sport right? I’ve learned a lot. She was unsympathetic yesterday. Heh heh.
I hope your workouts are doing well Amy. I hope Black Skinny does well also by the way. :)

Hey Beth,
Those aren't actually gloves, they're just my Adidas handwraps. And thanks for the compliment about my hair, though I must admit it's due for a touch-up.
I totally envy you for being able to spar with Shauna. Just recently I've been contemplating training at another boxing club, just down the street from where I tutor on Monday nights, in hopes of finding a more suitable sparring partner as well as being able to pick up some extra tips and pointers.
I hear what she's saying about being more of a boxer but that will come with practice. When you step into a ring for a fight it's natural instincts and skill that kicks in, you don't really think. It's more of just doing. And just doing means you'll need loads of continual practice and experience to have that skill become a part of your natural instincts. And she's totally right about going in with the combos. If you go in with a body shot, follow through with a head shot cause once you hit the body people naturally will drop their gaurd to protect themself, leaving them open for a head shot.
