As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Suffering from Blue Balls... Sunday, September 21

It's well after midnight and Snickers just got ratted out by our champion boxing buddy in Busan.

I love it when he calls us and heckles Snickers about my boxing.  Sometimes I think he's just as eager to get me back in the ring as I am.  Snickers, on the other hand, seems to think I need to work more and work harder.  I know I work hard in comparison to others but based on how Snickers talks about my training I wonder if I really am training as hard as I think I am.

MY NEW WEEKLY WORKOUT ROUTINE:
MONDAY
9.5km morning run
boxing
weight training -- upper body
TUESDAY
9.5km morning run
boxing
weight training -- lower body
WEDNESDAY
boxing
weight training -- core

THURSDAY
9.5km morning run
boxing
weight training -- full body

FRIDAY
no running, no boxing and no weight training -- full day off ALL training
SATURDAY
16-19km long run
boxing
weight training -- full body
SUNDAY
sparring only
[Note my Saturdays and Sunday routines are sometimes switched].
Tonight's late night business call started off with the usual, him asking me about my training, so I told him about today's run.  I ran a long run today -- 17kms at 5:32mins/km -- out in Asan, at that lake, like I promised I would.  I taught a Crossfit Challenger class but didn't participate in it like I usually do on the weekends because I'm good for cardio today, hello 17km, and I wanted to focus on some new weight training ideas I wanted to try.

His next question was directed towards Snickers.  He asked what he's been focusing on this week for my training, to which I threw in my sideline comments. This week it's been all about the one-two.  Seriously, ALL about the one-two.  I did 10 rounds on the sandbag the other day, doing JUST the one-two.  It is after all the fundamental two punches in boxing but it's very frustrating for an experienced fighter like myself to be forced to go back to very the basics, break it all down and then totally dissect it.  Sometimes when Snickers wasn't looking today or around, like when he stepped away to the bathroom or outside to take a call, I went ape-crazy on the sandbag just to release some frustrations.

And while Snickers wants me to have my next fight here in Korea, the Busan champ is pushing Thailand and he's being quite pro-active about it.  He travels a lot to Thailand for boxing business and he's suggesting bringing me next time he goes, for a fight.  Originally he wanted me to fight on October 10th but after he and Snickers talked about it, they said they'd hold off.  Snickers wanted a fight here in Korea.

It's very frustrating.  It's so very frustrating to be busting my balls every day at training, especially now that I've split my training, have running in the morning and then boxing and weight training in the afternoon, and now that Snickers is my coach.

I just want to fight.

This is the equivalency to blue balls to a boxer.
