As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Fairy Dust at the Club... Tuesday, May 8

Good things come to those who wait… is that what they say?

Nah, good things come to those who train, or at least that’s what I say.  A good heart-pumping run or a good grueling session at boxing always seem to do the trick for me so that’s exactly what I scheduled in for today.

I know, no matter how blah of a day I’m having, all I have to do is just get myself into the boxing club and things will be much better. After yesterday’s silly pity party-throwing and mopping around the house, I woke up realizing just how much of a waste that was – waste of a day, waste of my energy, waste of my time.  Today would have been Snickers’ day off and we would have spent it together but with him not here and me all alone, I decided to get my act together and make a day out of really using this day productively.  Today I focused on my training – revising my weight training routine, looking up some YouTube boxing videos, checking out new combo exercises online and downloading songs for my boxercise classes.

Got in a wicked afternoon run in the blazing sun… wow.

Getting into the boxing club was my main aim for today though.  Stepping foot into the boxing club never fails to lift my spirit and wash my blues away.  Whether it’s training alongside my awesome, awesome teammates, doing grueling pad work in the ring with my coach, or simply helping out some of the younger amateur boxers, the boxing club works wonders on me – mind, body and soul.  Even the Cheonan Bulldog, who just this past week broke up with his long time girlfriend was all bright eyed and cheery today at training.

I swear there’s some kind of fairy dust in the air, working it’s magic.

Just this past week someone else at the boxing club broke up with their long term girlfriend – Junior Mint.  They made for such a cool couple too -- he the boxing club coach and she the yoga instructor.  He seems to be taking it very well, mind you I don’t think he likes slipping in the ring, literally, while he waits till he can move into his new house this weekend.

The other week I picked up a new personal training client and this past week he’s started training at my boxing club.  Ran into him tonight at training.  He’s quickly picking up the Korean language and it’s been funny watching my teammates adjust to him.  He’s a big brute of a guy but he looks like such a gentle giant among my teammates who are all too curious to find out what he’s about.  It’s nice to have a new face at the boxing club but I sure love my usual crowd.  There’s definitely a sense of “family-ship” at the boxing club.
