At 4:56pm Snickers called me.
Him: Coach wants to know if you want a fight July 23rd. do you?
Me: A fight?... me?! [me trying to act clueless here]
Him: Yes, he says you said you wanted a fight.
Me: He said what?!
Him: He said you wanted a fight.
Me: Hmmm…. well, I can’t. I agreed to that English camp.
Him: Oh ya.
Him: Ok, so no.
Then at 4:58pm Junior Mint called me.
Him: Amy, are you able to fight on July 23rd?
Me: Did you tell Snickers?!
Him: ….do you want the fight?
Me: What are the details?
Him: Title match, July 23rd, weigh-in set for 48kgs.
Me: What?! How many kgs???
Him: 48kgs.
Me: I can’t. I have an English camp and it’s Snickers’ birthday.
Him: Hmmm…. ok, next time.
Me: Next time don't call Snickers about MY fight!
Him: Hmmm... ok. See you at training.
July 23rd is exactly 17 days away, which means weigh-in would be in 16 days. I currently weigh 54.3kgs so if I have to be under 48kgs for weigh-in, I’d have to shot for 47.8kgs. I’d have 16 days, just a bit over 2 weeks, to lose 6.5kgs. The most I’ve ever lost in a week for game weigh-in has been 3kgs but to do 3kgs two weeks in a row plus an additional 0.5kgs would definitely be pushing it. I’d need a solid 3 weeks and ya, I could pull it off and cut down to the required weigh-in weight. Of course, however, it isn’t all about cutting weight, it’s also about mentally preparing yourself, training like a beast and getting in sparring practice.
I need a good month and well, two weeks just doesn’t cut it. This is the second time that KBC has called on me to do a title match and again I’m questioning why the such short notice AGAIN for such a match. What happened to the original opponent and if there was no original opponent and this was kind of a last minute made match, who are they to expect both opponents to be ready for such a big match in such short time?! So unrealistic. And they wonder why the hype of boxing is going down in Korea – they’re so amateur in their match-making and in their dealings with their professional boxers.
