With my half marathon just two days away, the pressure is definitely on and being felt. Sponsors calling me, checking up and asking me "Amy, condition ok?", to which I know I have no choice but to answer "yes". Really though, I'd love to say "HELL NO!"
And just for the record, let it be known, I am by no means any kind of pro star runner. I started running longer runs back in high school when they said we had to pick a race to run on Track & Field Day. With a multitude of students picking the shorter runs, like the 100m and 200m dash, I only picked the longer runs, like the 1500m, because the probability was greater. If the 100m dash had 5 heats of 8 students, the chances of me winning first place was 1 in 40. However, if the 1500m had only 8 students, the chances of me winning was now down to 1 in 8. Sounded like pretty good odds to me! I never did win a long distance run but I definitely fell in love with the endurance demand and mental control it required of me.
