As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

A First Day Flood... Sunday, May 12

With much excitement and great anticipation, Snickers and I drove to Hulk's today, super pumped about kicking off our soft opening today. It was like we were high; we were super giddy in the car and totally obilivious to our lack of sleep and sore bodies from all the manual labor with renovations mixed with training.

Instantly however, upon arriving at Hulk's, our huge high took a huge nose dive when we noticed our side entrance door open. There's a glass door to the side stairwell and then there is a door to our club. Only the glass door was open but it meant the potential of others entering our building then getting locked in later. When I jumped out of Lady Ghini to close the glass door, it was then that I heard and saw a steady rushing flow of water coming out from under our club's door.

A flood on the first day?! Yup.

I ran around to the front door, unlocked it, turned off the security and then bolted it like a madwoman to the back of the club.  Over two inches of water covered the entire bathroom floor and the drain was clogged. The water was coming from the next room -- the shower room.  Something had gone wrong with the shower plumbing and a pipe had burst open. The strength of the burst was so strong in fact that it knocked seven tiles off the wall!

I burst into laughter and then blurted out "thanks mom!" It was a blessing in disguse, something that I was almost sure my mom had something to do with.

Later on -- much later on -- after we had successfully had our very first day of soft opening, Snickers insisted we head out for a celebration meal.  It was there that he asked me about why I thought that huge mess of a flood that took us about two hours to clean up was so funny.

"Life has a funny way of teaching us lessons -- I don't want to say I told you so", I told him.

His father had done the plumbing after I had.already insisted he didn't and wanted to get the professionals to do it. He refushed to let them do it and Snickers backed him up with their decision. We talked about this tonight -- the need to keep decisions between us and roles to be more finely defined and enforced (more specifically concerning his father).

After a good lengthy talk about it, we both agreed it'd break K-Gere's heart if he knew his work had brought about a flood so we decided it best to not tell him about the flood. However, we both agreed Snickers would have to talk to him about certain things, to make things more.clearer.
